0 $5 $9
1 $5 $10
2 $5 $12
3 $5 $15
4 $5 $19
5 $5 $24
6 $5 $30
7 $5 $45

Answers

Answer 1

The marginal cost (MC) at quantity level 4 is $4, which represents the additional cost incurred when producing one more unit.

To calculate the marginal cost (MC) at quantity level 4, we need to analyze the change in total cost (TC) when the production quantity increases from 3 to 4.

From the table, we can observe that the total cost increases as the quantity increases. To find the marginal cost, we need to identify the change in total cost associated with an increase in quantity.

When the quantity increases from 3 to 4, the total cost increases from $15 to $19. Therefore, the change in total cost is $19 - $15 = $4.

The marginal cost (MC) represents the additional cost incurred when producing one more unit. In this case, the marginal cost at quantity level 4 is $4, as it corresponds to the change in total cost associated with producing one additional unit.

It's worth noting that the given data in the table does not provide information about total revenue (TR), marginal revenue (MR), or profit. However, using the provided information, we can determine the marginal cost at quantity level 4 as $4.

Reese, a calendar-year taxpayer, uses the cash method of accounting for her sole proprietorship. In late December, she received a $20,000 bill from her accountant for consulting services related to her small business. Reese can pay the $20,000 bill anytime before January 30 of next year without penalty. Assume Reese's marginal tax rate is 32 percent this year and 35 percent next year, and that she can earn an aftertax rate of return of 12 percent on her investments. Required: a. What is the after-tax cost if she pays the $20,000 bill in December? b. What is the after-tax cost if she pays the $20,000 bill in January? Use Exhibit 3.1. c. Should Reese pay the $20,000 bill in December or January? d. What is the after-tax cost if she expects her marginal tax rate to be 24 percent next year and pays the $20,000 bill in January? Use Exhibit 3.1. Note: Round your answer to the nearest whole dollar amount. e. Should Reese pay the $20,000 bill in December or January if she expects her marginal tax rate to be 32 percent this year and 24 percent next year? Complete this question by entering your answers in the tabs below. What is the after-tax cost if she pays the $20,000 bill in January? Use Exhibit 3.1.

Answers

a. After-tax cost if she pays the $20,000 bill in December:

Since Reese's marginal tax rate is 32 percent this year, the after-tax cost will be:

After-tax cost = Bill amount - (Bill amount * Tax rate)

After-tax cost = $13,600

b. After-tax cost if she pays the $20,000 bill in January:

If Reese pays the bill in January, her marginal tax rate for the next year, which is 35 percent, will apply. Therefore, the after-tax cost will be:

After-tax cost = Bill amount - (Bill amount * Tax rate)

After-tax cost = $20,000 - ($20,000 * 0.35)

After-tax cost = $13,000

c. To determine whether Reese should pay the bill in December or January, we compare the after-tax costs. In this case, the after-tax cost is lower if she pays the bill in December ($13,600) compared to January ($13,000). Therefore, Reese should pay the $20,000 bill in December to minimize the after-tax cost.

d. After-tax cost if she expects her marginal tax rate to be 24 percent next year and pays the $20,000 bill in January:

Using the expected marginal tax rate of 24 percent for the next year:

After-tax cost = Bill amount - (Bill amount * Tax rate)

After-tax cost = $20,000 - ($20,000 * 0.24)

After-tax cost = $15,200

e. To determine whether Reese should pay the bill in December or January, considering the expected marginal tax rate of 32 percent this year and 24 percent next year, we compare the after-tax costs. In this case, the after-tax cost is still lower if she pays the bill in December ($13,600) compared to January ($15,200). Therefore, Reese should still pay the $20,000 bill in December to minimize the after-tax cost.

Option A - called Midtown - will have annual fixed costs of 42,000 and variable costs of 3.45 per customer. Option B - called Market - will have annual fixed costs of 28,500 and variable costs of 4.45 per customer. Finally Option C called Mall - has annual fixed cost of 21,000 and variable costs of 4.95 per customer. If Mr. Cho averages 8.75 in revenue per customer, what volume is required to breakeven with Option B?

Answers

Mr.cho senn would need approximately 6,627 customers to breakeven with option b (market) given the provided costs and revenue information.

answer: to calculate the breakeven volume for option b, we need to determine the number of customers required to cover the total costs. the breakeven point occurs when total revenue equals total costs.

breakeven volume calculation for option b:fixed costs (option b) = $28,500

variable costs per customer (option b) = $4.45revenue per customer = $8.75

breakeven equation: total revenue = total costs

(x = breakeven volume)

x * revenue per customer = fixed costs + (x * variable costs per customer)

simplifying the equation:

x * $8.75 = $28,500 + (x * $4.45)

solving for x:

$8.75x - $4.45x = $28,500

$4.3x = $28,500

x ≈ $28,500 / $4.3

x ≈ 6,627 customers (approximately)

Consider the following Cournot duopoly. Both firms produce a homogenous good. The demand function is Q= 100 - 2P, where Q is the total quantity produced. Firm 1's cost function is TC(q))=591+1. Firm 2's marginal cost of production is cu = 6 with probability 0.5 and c = 3 with probability 0.5. Firm 2 knows its own cost function and firm 1's cost function. Firm 1 knows its own cost function and the probability distribution of firm 2's marginal cost. How much does firm 2 produce in a Bayesian Nash Equilibrium? 175/6 if the marginal cost is high and 193/6 if the marginal cost is low 86/3 if the marginal cost is high and 98/6 if the marginal cost is low 092/3 98/6

Answers

To determine the quantity that Firm 2 produces in a Bayesian Nash Equilibrium, we need to consider the strategies of both firms and their beliefs about each other's actions.

In this Cournot duopoly, Firm 2 knows its own cost function and Firm 1's cost function, while Firm 1 knows its own cost function and the probability distribution of Firm 2's marginal cost.

Given that Firm 2 has two possible marginal costs with equal probabilities (0.5 each), we will consider both cases separately.High marginal cost (cu = 6):Firm 2's profit-maximizing quantity (q2) can be calculated by taking Firm 1's response into account. The reaction function for Firm 1, given Firm 2's cost function, is determined by differentiating the inverse demand function with respect to q1 and equating it to the marginal cost of Firm 1: [tex]MR1 = MC1[/tex]Solving for q1 in terms of q2:

P [tex]= (100 - Q) / 2[/tex]

Q [tex]= q1 + q2[/tex]

MR1 [tex]= dP / dQ = (dP / dq1) * (dq1 / dQ) = (-1/2) * (1) = -1/2[/tex]

MC1 [tex]= 1[/tex]

[tex]-1/2 = 1[/tex]

[tex]q1 = 49/2[/tex]

Knowing Firm 1's reaction function, Firm 2 can determine its optimal quantity by considering Firm 1's response to its own quantity choice. In this case, since the marginal cost is high (cu = 6), Firm 2's profit-maximizing quantity is:

[tex]q2 = 100 - q1 - q2[/tex]

[tex]q2 = 100 - (49/2) - q2[/tex]

[tex]2q2 = 100 - 49/2[/tex]

[tex]q2 = (100 - 49/2) / 2[/tex]

[tex]q2 = 175/6[/tex]

Low marginal cost [tex](c = 3)[/tex]:

Similarly, for the case of a low marginal cost (c = 3), we repeat the steps to find the optimal quantity of Firm 2:[tex]q1 = 49/2[/tex]; [tex]q2 = 100 - q1 - q2[/tex]

[tex]q2 = 100 - (49/2) - q2[/tex]

[tex]2q2 = 100 - 49/2[/tex]

[tex]q2 = (100 - 49/2) / 2[/tex]

[tex]q2 = 193/6[/tex]

Therefore, in a Bayesian Nash Equilibrium, the quantity that Firm 2 produces depends on the cost scenario:If the marginal cost is high (cu = 6), Firm 2 produces 175/6.If the marginal cost is low (c = 3),

O Firm 2 will not stay out regardless of Firm 1's decision in the first stage

Answers

The statement "If Firm 1 enters with a low price, then Firm 1 would be better off paying Firm 2 a payment of $25 to stay out of the market is not correct about the extensive-form game described.

In the given extensive-form game, Firm 1 and Firm 2 are engaged in a pricing competition. The correct statements about the game are as follows: If Firm 1 enters with a high price, Firm 2 will be indifferent between matching or receiving a payment of $25 from Firm 1 to stay out. If Firm 2 undercuts Firm 1, Firm 1 is better off retaliating if they entered with a high price and succumbing if they entered with a low price. If Firm 1 enters with a low price, Firm 2 will choose to undercut. However, the statement suggesting that Firm 1 would be better off paying Firm 2 $25 to stay out of the market if Firm 1 enters with a low price is incorrect.

The reason why this statement is incorrect is that if Firm 1 enters with a low price, paying Firm 2 to stay out would result in an additional cost for Firm 1. In terms of Firm 1's economic pay-off, it would be more advantageous for Firm 1 to engage in the pricing competition rather than incurring an extra payment to Firm 2. Therefore, the correct strategy for Firm 1, when entering with a low price, would be to compete directly with Firm 2 rather than paying them to stay out.

C. make work for regulators

E. inhibit rapid growth rate of bank assets

Answers

The best statement that describes the reason why bank regulators set minimum capital standards is: A. protect creditors from decreases in asset values.

The reason why bank regulators set minimum capital standards is primarily to protect creditors from decreases in asset values.

play a crucial role in the economy by accepting deposits from individuals and entities and providing loans and other financial services. By setting minimum capital standards, regulators aim to ensure that banks maintain a sufficient buffer of capital to absorb losses and honor their obligations to depositors and other creditors.

In the event of financial distress or economic downturns, banks may experience losses on their assets, such as loans that are not repaid. If a bank's capital is inadequate, it may not have the financial strength to absorb these losses, potentially leading to insolvency. Minimum capital standards act as a safeguard by requiring banks to maintain a certain level of capital relative to their risk-weighted assets, thereby reducing the likelihood of default and protecting creditors.

While protecting shareholders from managerial fraud or incompetence is also a consideration, the primary focus of minimum capital standards is on safeguarding the interests of creditors. Additionally, the establishment of capital standards does involve some regulatory work, but it is primarily driven by the need to maintain financial stability and protect the broader economy.

In summary, the primary reason for setting minimum capital standards is to protect creditors from decreases in asset values and ensure the stability and resilience of the banking system.

Consider investing your savings in a coupon bond with the following properties: Maturity: 5 years Face value: $10,000 Coupon rate: 4% (makes coupon payments every 6 months until the end of the maturity period) If the price of this coupon bond is $12,000 today, does it make sense to buy this bond? You can assume the risk free rate will be 2% until the bond reaches maturity.

Answers

It does not make sense to buy this bond if the price is $12,000 today.

The coupon bond has a face value of $10,000 and a coupon rate of 4%. It matures in 5 years, and coupon payments are made every 6 months until maturity. The risk-free rate is assumed to be 2% until the bond matures.

To determine whether it's worth buying the bond, we need to calculate its present value. The present value of future cash flows can be calculated using the discounted cash flow (DCF) formula. In this case, we need to discount the coupon payments and the face value based on the risk-free rate.

Given that the coupon rate is 4%, the semi-annual coupon payment would be ($10,000 * 4%) / 2 = $200. The bond would make 10 coupon payments over 5 years.

Using the discount rate of 2% (risk-free rate), we can discount the future cash flows. Calculating the present value of the coupon payments would be:

PV of coupon payments = ($200 / (1 + 0.02)) + ($200 / (1 + 0.02)^2) + ... + ($200 / (1 + 0.02)^10)

Calculating this sum will give us the present value of the coupon payments. Similarly, we can discount the face value of $10,000 using the same discount rate.

If the price of the bond is $12,000, but the present value of the cash flows (coupon payments and face value) is lower than $12,000, it would not make sense to buy the bond. However, if the present value is higher than $12,000, it could be considered a good investment.

To make a final determination, we would need to calculate the present value of the cash flows and compare it to the bond's price. Unfortunately, without specific information on the discount factors, it is not possible to provide an exact answer.

One of the threats is the failure to bill customers, which can result in revenue loss and cash flow problems. Additionally, credit sales to customers with poor credit can lead to bad debts and potential write-offs. These credit sales pose a risk to the organization's financial health. Therefore, both failure to bill customers and credit sales to customers with poor credit are significant threats to the billing function.

Theft of inventory (option b) and shipping errors (option c) are not directly related to the billing function. While they can affect overall business operations, they do not directly impact the billing process itself. Therefore, the correct answer is e. all of the above, as both failure to bill customers and credit sales to customers with poor credit are specific threats that directly affect the billing function.

b. A hospital considering the purchase of a new MRI machine and a new cardiac monitoring system.
c. A bank deciding between keeping a manual check sorting process or an automated sort process.
d. A retailer deciding between an inventory management system offered by two different vendors.

Answers

Option a. A manufacturing plant considering a major overhaul of an existing machine or replacing the existing machine with a new model is an example of an independent project.

In project management, an independent project refers to a stand-alone initiative that can be evaluated and implemented separately from other projects or activities. It is not dependent on or influenced by other ongoing projects or decisions. In this case, the manufacturing plant is evaluating whether to overhaul the existing machine or replace it with a new model. This decision can be made independently without being tied to other projects or considerations.

Option b involves considering the purchase of multiple machines, which implies a combination of projects. Option c involves a choice between two processes, and option d involves selecting between different vendors for a system. Both options involve multiple considerations and choices, making them dependent projects. Therefore, option a is the example that best represents an independent project.

Answers

Jimmy, who can be categorized under the late majority customer segment, will prefer to buy from well-established brands rather than unknown new ventures.

The correct answer is Option B.

Jimmy can be categorized under the late majority customer segment. The Late Majority, also known as Skeptics or Laggards, is the second last to adopt an innovation. Their adoption is driven mainly by economic necessity or peer pressure from others who have already adopted the innovation.

The following behavior is most likely to be exhibited by Jimmy:

B) He will prefer to buy from well-established brands rather than unknown new ventures. The late majority usually has a high degree of skepticism when it comes to technology. They rely on well-established brands to make them feel comfortable and secure.

They will typically opt for established, proven technologies that have been in use for some time rather than untested new technologies. They prefer to be sure that the new product or technology has been tried and tested before they make a purchase.

The Late Majority of customers are also not early adopters or early majority customers. They are less confident in their ability to master any new technology and may not rely on endorsements by the early majority or early adopters. This segment of the market is usually very conservative and resistant to change.

They need plenty of convincing before they make a purchase and will often wait for a new product or technology to become more affordable or to prove its worth before they take the plunge.

Product engineening has determined that certain production changes could refine the product quality and functionalify. These new production changes would increase matertal and labor costs by 20% per unit. Requlred: a. What would be the incremental profit or loss if Lakeside could sell the refined version of its product for $49 per unit? (Round your final answer to 2 decimal places, Loss amounts should be Indicated with a minus sign.) b. Should it be processed further? Yes No

Answers

(a) The incremental profit or loss if Lakeside could sell the refined version of its product for $49 per unit will be $3.80 profit per unit.

(b) Whether it should be further processed or not would depend on the cost of processing it. If the cost of processing it further is more than the incremental profit of $3.80 per unit, then it would not be worth processing it

a) To find the incremental profit or loss, we first need to calculate the cost of the product per unit.

Direct Materials = $12

Direct Labor = $14

Variable Overhead = $7

Fixed Overhead = $7

Total Cost = $40 per unit

Then, the new cost after the production changes will be:

Direct Materials = $12 + 20% = $14.40

Direct Labor = $14 + 20% = $16.80

Variable Overhead = $7

Total Cost = $40 + $2.40 + $2.80 = $45.20 per unit.

The incremental profit or loss would be:$49 – $45.20 = $3.80 profit per unit.

b) Whether it should be further processed or not would depend on the cost of processing it. If the cost of processing it further is more than the incremental profit of $3.80 per unit, then it would not be worth processing it further. If the cost of processing it further is less than the incremental profit of $3.80 per unit, then it would be worth processing it further.

Hence, further information regarding the additional costs associated with processing it further is needed to make a decision.

Therefore, the incremental profit or loss if Lakeside could sell the refined version of its product for $49 per unit will be $3.80 profit per unit and whether it should be further processed or not would depend on the cost of processing it.

bonds that pay coupons in the form of additional bonds

Answers

Bonds that pay coupons in the form of additional bonds are known as "zero-coupon bonds" or "stripped bonds."

Unlike traditional bonds that pay periodic interest payments in cash, zero-coupon bonds do not make regular coupon payments in the form of cash. Instead, the coupons are paid in the form of additional bonds, which are often referred to as "strips."

Zero-coupon bonds are issued at a discount to their face value and mature at par value. The difference between the purchase price and the par value represents the interest earned on the bond. While these bonds do not provide regular income in the form of cash coupons, they offer the potential for capital appreciation as they approach maturity.

Investors of zero-coupon bonds may choose to hold them until maturity to receive the full face value of the bond, including the accrued interest. Alternatively, they can be traded in the secondary market, allowing investors to buy and sell the bonds based on their expected yield and market conditions.

Zero-coupon bonds are often used by investors who have specific long-term investment goals or who seek to match future cash flow needs. Additionally, they are utilized in certain financial strategies, such as bond portfolio immunization and the creation of synthetic fixed-income products.

Compensatory damages are designed to restore the claimant to pre-injury status. The answer is option D.

Compensatory damages are a type of legal remedy intended to restore the claimant to their pre-injury condition. This means that the victim is awarded money to cover the losses they suffered as a result of the injury. Compensatory damages are typically classified into two categories: economic and non-economic damages.

Economic damages are quantifiable losses that are easy to quantify, such as medical bills, lost wages, and property damage. Non-economic damages, on the other hand, are more difficult to quantify and refer to things like pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of enjoyment of life.

In general, compensatory damages are intended to restore the victim to their pre-injury condition by awarding them enough money to cover the losses they incurred as a result of the injury. Amortizing loans. A bank loan requires you to pay $87.000 at the end of each of the next 8 years. The interest rate is 8%.

What is the NPV of these payments?

Calculate for each year the loan balance that remains outstanding, the interest payment on the loan and the reduction in the loan balance.

Answers

The NPV is the sum of present values of loan payments. The loan balance decreases each year due to payments.

We must discount each loan payment to its present value using the specified interest rate in order to determine the Net Present Value (NPV) of the loan installments. The present values of all the payments are added to determine the NPV.

PV = Payment / (1 + r)n, where PV is the present value, Payment is the payment amount, r is the interest rate, and n is the number of years, can be used to determine the present value of each payment using an interest rate of 8%.

The loan term in this instance is 8 years, with a payment of $87,000. There is an 8% interest rate. We can compute the present value of each payment by plugging in the values, then add them up to find the NPV.

We deduct the decrease in the loan sum from the total from the prior year to determine the outstanding loan balance for each year. The payment amount less the interest paid on the loan represents the decrease in the loan balance.

The outstanding loan sum at the start of the year multiplied by the interest rate will yield the annual interest payment for the loan.

To sum it up:

- Use the following formula to determine the present value of each payment: PV = Payment / (1 + r)n.

- To calculate the NPV, add up all of the payments' present values.

- Subtract the reduction in the loan balance from the balance from the prior year to determine the outstanding loan balance for each year.

- The loan amount was decreased.

Suppose you buy 45 April 100 put option contracts. What is your maximum gain? On the expiration date. Hendreeks is selling for $85.80 per share. How much is your options investment worth? What is your net gain? (Do not round intermediate calculations.)
Previous question

Answers

The maximum gain is $450,000.

The options investment is worth $0.

The net gain is -$450,000.

To calculate the maximum gain, options investment worth, and net gain, we need the given information.

Number of put option contracts = 45

Strike price of the put option = $100

Current stock price (Hendreeks) = $85.80

Maximum Gain:

The maximum gain from buying put options occurs when the stock price goes to zero. Since you have 45 put option contracts, each representing 100 shares, the maximum gain would be:

Maximum Gain = (Strike price - Stock price) * Number of contracts * Number of shares per contract

Maximum Gain = ($100 - $0) * 45 * 100

= $450,000

Options Investment Worth:

The options investment is worth $0 if the stock price is below the strike price on the expiration date. In this case, the stock price is $85.80, which is below the strike price of $100. Therefore, the options investment is worthless.

Net Gain:

The net gain is the difference between the maximum gain and the options investment worth. Since the options investment is worth $0, the net gain would be:

Net Gain = Maximum Gain - Options Investment Worth

Net Gain = $450,000 - $0

= $450,000

The maximum gain from buying 45 April 100 put option contracts is $450,000. However, if the stock price on the expiration date is $85.80, the options investment would be worth $0. Therefore, the net gain would be -$450,000.

ABC company is a merchandising business. In Year 1, the business experienced the following events:
1. Acquired $1.000 cash from the issue of common stock
2. Purchased inventory for $790 cash.
3. Sold inventory costing $440 for $770.
What is the value of ABC Company's ending merchandise inventory?
a. $5440
b. $5350
c. $5790
d. $330

Answers

The Year 2 ending balance of the Supplies account is $232.

The value of ABC Company's ending merchandise inventory is $330. The correct answer option is d.

For the first question, the Year 2 ending balance of the Supplies account can be calculated by subtracting the supplies purchased during the year from the beginning supplies balance and considering the count at the end of the year. In this case, the beginning supplies balance was $240, and the supplies purchased during the year were $50. Therefore, the ending balance is $240 - $50 + $232, which equals $232.

For the second question, the value of the ending merchandise inventory can be determined by calculating the cost of goods sold (COGS) and subtracting it from the total cost of inventory purchased during the year. The COGS is calculated by subtracting the cost of inventory sold from the total cost of inventory purchased. In this case, the cost of inventory sold is $440, and the total cost of inventory purchased is $790. Therefore, the ending merchandise inventory is $790 - $440, which equals $350.

During the height of the Covid 19 pandemic, the demand for commodities such as dairy products and crude oil was reduced to the point at which the price is significantly below the market equilibrium price experienced before the pandemic. This has resulted in several governors calling for the initiation of federal price controls on these products.

A: Which type of price control would be most effective in dealing with this occurrence? Why?

B: Please explain one advantage and disadvantage associated with the use of your chosen price control.

Answers

A: The most effective type of price control in dealing with the reduced demand and significantly low prices for commodities during the Covid-19 pandemic would be a price floor. A price floor sets a minimum price that must be paid for a particular product or commodity.

In this situation, a price floor would help establish a minimum price level for dairy products and crude oil, ensuring that producers receive a fair price for their goods. By preventing prices from falling too low, it provides support to producers and helps stabilize the market.

B: Advantage and disadvantage of a price floor:

Advantage: The advantage of implementing a price floor is that it provides stability and security to producers. During times of reduced demand and low prices, a price floor ensures that producers can still sell their goods at a reasonable price, preventing them from facing significant losses. This helps maintain the viability of producers and ensures the continued supply of goods to the market.

Disadvantage: One disadvantage of a price floor is the potential for creating surplus or excess supply. If the minimum price set by the price floor is higher than what consumers are willing to pay, it can lead to a situation where the quantity supplied exceeds the quantity demanded, resulting in a surplus. This surplus can be challenging to manage, as it may lead to storage issues, increased costs for storage facilities, or the need for government intervention to address the excess supply.

It's important to note that the effectiveness and appropriateness of price controls can vary depending on the specific circumstances and market dynamics, and there may be other factors to consider when implementing such measures.

CASE STUDY: 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP AND RUSSIA (Question is at the end)The FIFA World Cup is one of the largest sport mega-events in the world and its global appeal is unmatched short of the Olympic Games. The worldwide audience is estimated to be around 160 million viewers. The 2018 FIFA World Cup ran from June 14 to July 15 and was hosted by Russia in 12 stadiums across 11 cities, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Sochi. In the end, France defeated Croatia on July 15 in the final game by a score of 4 to 2. France took home $38 million in prize money and Croatia won $28 million. Contributions to fund the 2018 World Cup totaled some $791 million, which was an increase of 40 percent from the previous tournament in 2014. This money is given to each countrys national FIFA federation, which determines how it is distributed. While France and Croatia walked away with the largest earnings, each team that advanced to the group stage received a minimum of $8 million plus $1.5 million to cover preparation costs. As the winner, France received a trophy valued at $20 million; and while they dont get to keep it indefinitely, it is difficult to estimate the value that derives from this fame and publicity, which leads to corporate sponsorships, advertising deals, and social and economic impacts for the winning country, not to mention other contracts.Hosting the most expensive FIFA World Cup in its history, Russia was reported to have spent approximately 883 billion rubles (USD $14.2 billion), or around 1 percent of Russias GDP over the last five years. Of this amount, around $6.11 billion was spent on transportation infrastructure, $3.45 billion on stadium construction, and $680 million on facilities for accommodation. Economics research on sport mega-events suggests that spending on these types of events does not result in the economic benefits that are normally touted by politicians and event planners. The event lasted one month, and while the economics are mega, the economic stimulus of hosting the event is small in comparison to the size of Russias $1.3 trillion economy. Another metric often touted as an advantage of hosting a sport mega-event is an increase in tourism. Inbound tourism arrivals to Russia were projected to compound at an annual growth rate of 4 percent by 2022, reaching 37.5 million trips. As a direct result of hosting the World Cup tournament, a 1.4-percent increase in the number of total arrivals to Russia was forecast. More than three million fans attended the 64 total matches and stadiums averaged around a 98 percent occupancy rate. Russian officials expected approximately 570,000 foreign fans and 700,000 Russians to attend World Cup matches. While the numbers speak for themselves, it is difficult to measure some of the socialimpacts of a sport mega-event such as the FIFA World Cup. FIFA president Gianni Infan-tino was reported to have told Russian president Vladimir Putin that the world was "in love" with the Russian hosts, and he praised Putin for overcoming negative stereotypes about the country. Alexei Sorokin, director of Russias World Cup organizing committee claimed that "the World Cup exceeded the expectations of even the organizers. I was amazed by the atmosphere that gripped our country."So, how does one evaluate the success of a sport mega-event such as the FIFA World Cup? Is it based on economics, tourism, social factors or expectations of government officials and fans? Russia as a host of the tournament was criticized for its lack of midtier accommodation facilities, safety concerns, relatively high visiting costs, and burdensome visa regulations. In addition, there was concern about recent political tension between Russia and the U.K., and economic sanctions imposed on Russia by the United States, the European Union and several other countries following its annexation of Crimea in 2014. Russian relations with the West were also strained by the Kremlins alleged meddling in the 2016 U.S. election and suspected involvement in an attack on a former Russian spy. Finally, there were concerns that hooliganism between Russia and England fans at the last major European soccer tournament in 2016 might carry over. How would you evaluate the 2018 World Cup from an economic perspective? While he was on the field, his coaches removed his helmet, which was then lost. The plaintiff's mother filed stit against the helmet manufacturers, alleging that the helmet's liner and foam padding were defectively designed. The district court granted summary judgment to the defendants because the plaintiff could not produce the specific helmet at issue and thus could not prove the helmet was defective. GPS Marketers was hired to test the product, which was well-received by subjects in the target audience. However, the product developers balked at spending money on marketing, hoping word of mouth would be sufficient to increase sales, and the product failed to launch successfully. Why is it important to spend money on marketing when introducing a new product or service?Introducing a new product or service with a big marketing campaign and a large budget is important in order to build confidence in the product. It is necessary to spend money to tell consumers about your product because if they dont know it exists, there is zero chance they will purchase it.Spending money on launching a product is needed in order to help recognize employees for all the work theyve done to successfully bring a product to market.Spending money on marketing conveys to potential customers that a company is financially stable and able to back its products.Excited about their new popcorn popping invention, a company contacted GPS Marketers to help them launch their new product. During GPSs research, they discovered that a similar product had been tried five years before and failed dismally. GPS recommended that the company not waste time and money on the product. Convinced, however, that their invention was better, the company insisted on a product launch, and as had happened previously, the product did not sell. Why should the company not have ignored the popcorn popping product that failed before?A successful pastry company that specializes in delicious and unique combination flavor cream pies contacted GPS Marketers to help them market a new line of piesa mini version of their popular 9-inch pies. The mini versions were less expensive than the larger pies, of course, but the larger pies would feed a greater number of people for less money. GPSs research found that the people loved the pies, however, and were willing to pay more money so that, in a group, everyone could get their favorite pie. GPS helped launch the new line, which was wildly successful. In fact, the mini pies became the best sellers for the pastry company. Why was the bakerys line extension of an already successful product less risky than developing an entirely new product? Its important not to ignore the previously tested popcorn popping invention so that the company can ensure there are no patents that use the same technology.Setting aside what happened in the past in the popcorn market will actually benefit company employees because they wont feel restricted in their ideas.Understanding what has happened in the past in the popcorn market would allow the company time to explore and develop new product ideas.Paying attention to the similar popcorn popping product that had failed in the past would have helped the company prevent making the same mistakes and wasting time and money.Because the companys pies were already successful, building on that success makes it easier for employees and allows them to spend time developing other ideas. The mini pie line extension could utilize all the benefits of the existing pie brand, including an established and loyal customer base and the companys expertise.Taking the successful pies and adding a new twist to them was less risky because little work needed to be done to produce and promote the new mini pie products.Building on the already successful pie brand was less risky because it allowed the company to tap into new markets that it had never attempted to sell to before.
