"Half-freedom" in New Netherland could be earned only by:
• a. enslaved WIC employees
• b. Indigenous peoples living in WIC-controlled territories
• c. enslaved and free people of color who worked as WIC employees
• d. anyone living in WIC-controlled territories

Answers

Answer 1

The correct option is b. "Half-freedom" in New Netherlands could be earned only by enslaved and free people of color who worked as WIC employees.

New Netherland was a colony that existed from 1624 until 1674 and was situated in the present-day northeastern United States. Half-freedom was a Dutch legal concept in which enslaved individuals could receive a number of rights and privileges but were still considered property. According to the given options, "Half-freedom" in New Netherlands could be earned only by enslaved and free people of color who worked as WIC (West India Company) employees. The WIC controlled the Dutch colony of New Netherlands for many years, and it was during this time that the concept of half-freedom emerged.

Half-freedom allowed enslaved people to earn money by working in a variety of roles and to purchase their freedom from their owners. They were, however, still required to work for the WIC or other European landowners, and they had to pay fees for the rights and privileges that half-freedom provided.

which of the following was characteristic of the religious rituals of the maya and aztecs? group of answer choices underground ceremonial centers all these answers are correct. human sacrifice worship of the moon

Answers

The Maya and Aztecs are ancient Mesoamerican civilizations known for their intricate religious practices and advanced astronomical knowledge. The religious rituals of these two civilizations were similar in some ways but had their differences as well.

One of the characteristic features of the religious rituals of the Maya and Aztecs was human sacrifice. Both civilizations believed that human sacrifices were necessary to appease the gods and maintain a balance between the supernatural and natural worlds. They believed that the gods demanded the blood of human beings to nourish and sustain them. The Aztecs were particularly notorious for their human sacrifices, which they carried out on a massive scale. They sacrificed tens of thousands of people annually to appease their gods, sometimes carrying out sacrifices in public places or on top of pyramids. The Maya also engaged in human sacrifice, though not to the extent of the Aztecs. They sacrificed captives of war, members of rival groups, and occasionally, members of their own community. However, the Maya also practiced bloodletting as a form of sacrifice, which involved drawing blood from their bodies as a way of paying homage to their gods.

Immediately prior to the adoption of the U.S. Constitution, the United States was governed under which document? Articles of Confederation Lee Resolution Mayflower Compact Declaration of Independence

Answers

Immediately prior to the adoption of the U.S. Constitution, the United States was governed under the Articles of Confederation.

The Articles of Confederation served as the first constitution of the United States and were in effect from 1781 to 1789. They were adopted by the Second Continental Congress in 1777 and ratified by the states in 1781.

The Articles of Confederation established a decentralized form of government that granted limited powers to the central government. Under this system, the states retained most of the authority, while the national government had limited powers to handle issues such as foreign relations and defense.

However, the Articles of Confederation had several weaknesses that became apparent over time. The central government lacked the power to levy taxes, regulate commerce, and enforce laws. It also faced challenges in maintaining a strong military and resolving disputes between states.

These weaknesses prompted the need for a stronger central government, leading to the drafting of the U.S. Constitution. The Constitution, adopted in 1787 and ratified in 1788, replaced the Articles of Confederation and established a more centralized and balanced system of government.

In conclusion, the United States was governed under the Articles of Confederation immediately prior to the adoption of the U.S. Constitution. The Articles of Confederation served as the first constitution but proved to have significant limitations, eventually leading to the development of the more robust and comprehensive U.S. Constitution.

how were interactions between muslims and christians on the iberian peninsula similar to interactions between the two groups during the crusades?

Answers

The Iberian Peninsula was an essential area in the Medieval period, with its share of religious and cultural diversity. During the time of the Muslim expansion in Europe, which began in 711, there were Muslim and Christian interactions on the Iberian Peninsula.

First, both periods were characterized by prolonged conflict. The Christian kingdoms on the Iberian Peninsula fought against the Muslim emirates and Caliphate for over 700 years, and the Crusades were a series of wars fought between Christian Europe and Muslim powers from the 11th to the 13th century.

Second, both periods saw the exchange of knowledge and ideas between the two groups. In the Iberian Peninsula, Muslims and Christians lived side by side, leading to mutual influence and cross-cultural exchange. During the Crusades, European crusaders were exposed to the ideas, technology, and philosophy of the Muslim world, which had a significant impact on European intellectual life.

Finally, both periods saw periods of peaceful coexistence as well as violent conflict. In the Iberian Peninsula, there were periods of Muslim-Christian coexistence, such as the "Golden Age" of the Muslim Caliphate of Cordoba. Similarly, during the Crusades, there were moments of peaceful coexistence, such as the peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims in the city of Jerusalem under Saladin.

Which feature was MOST important to the development of civilization in ancient Egypt?

Answers

Answer:

The Nile River

Explanation:

Water during ancient civilizations was a MUST and looking at the most successful civilizations, you can see that they all are near a water source. The nice thing about water sources is that they provide silt, which is great for farming and makes the land fertile. They  can also help with transportation because it was faster to go by boat than by horse and cart. This is the great thing about the Nile, it was the best of all of these things for the Egyptians. First, it provided them with water and food. This makes the basic needs for the civilization settled, so they can worry about advancement not surivival. Second, it provided silt for farmers making a surplus of food, which allowed for specialization (not everyone has to be a farmer). The silt was brought onto the farms though when the river flooded. The great thing though was that the river's flooding could be predicted because it happened at a certain time and would flood to a certain point on the river bank (unlike the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers for Mesopotamia).  So, the Egyptians didn't have to worry about all of their stuff being destroyed. The final great thing about the Nile, was that sailing on the current of it, would lead you to the Mediterranean Sea, which was where all the trading went on, so the river really helped Egypt trade with other civilizations as well. This also allowed for cultural diffusion, so Egypt could impact others, but more importantly it could take ideas from other civilizations and implement them into it's own society (which it did quite often).
