I see that Spain is much closer to Africa than I thought it was. Research reveals that at its closest point, Morocco is only 9 miles away when you cross the Strait of Gibraltar. So, the Strait of Gibraltar is actually a rather narrow passageway to the large Mediterranean Sea. In other words, if this passage were closed up the Mediterranean Sea would be an enormous lake!
