5. What is another way to say that a person feels affrighted?

Answers

Answer:

This took place in the medieval times. I can infer this because women were still supposed to act a certain way. Not only that, but the guillotine was still being. The plot of the story is that Carpenters tried to take advantage of Goody Hibbins's wealth, so they overcharged her. She decided to take legal actions against them, and she won. which was a problem in society. She was falsely accused and her only crime is "having more wits than her neighbor".Benevolence: Respect

I can infer that the "benevolence" means kindness because after her husband died more problems were starting to occur. It also states, "Her fellow lost respect for her, but they still respected Mr. Hibbin's enough to let the matter rest-for a time.

(AP Lang E2020) Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich - Between the two jobs, I would be making about $320 a week after taxes, so that the $179 in rent would have amounted to about 55 percent of my income, which is beginning to look "affordable."28 But Rainbow also falls through; they decide they want me to work part-time five days a week, not just on weekends. Furthermore, I have no control at the moment over what my days off will be. Howard has scheduled me to have Friday off one week, Tuesday and Wednesday the next, and I would have to do some serious sucking up to arrive at a more stable and congenial schedule.
Ergo, I either need to find a husband, like Melissa, or a second job, like some of my other coworkers. In the long run everything will work out if I devote my mornings to job hunting, while holding out for a Park Plaza opening or, better yet, a legitimate apartment at $400 a month or $100 a week. But to paraphrase Keynes: in the long run, we'll all be broke, at least those of us who work for low wages and live in exorbitantly overpriced motels.

In the sentence "in the long run … $100 a week," the author is
I. Sincerely attempting to be upbeat and positive about her options and her future
II. Being practical about her expenses and work options and establish a realistic plan for her future
III. Pointing out how precarious her situation is and how much of a longshot it will be for things to work out

A. I only
B. II only
C. I and II only
D. II and III only
E. I, II, and III

Answers

Answer:

E. I, II, and III

Explanation:

Based on the given passage, the author talks about trying to stay afloat by earning enough to be able to afford rent and other utilities without going broke.

In the sentence "in the long run … $100 a week," the author is trying to both be optimistic, practical and noting how precarious her situation is if things don't change soon.

D. II and III only

Answers

Answer:

Cooking was the most important part of Thanksgiving for Carrie.

Explanation:

When Carrie saw the kitchen in her brother's dormitory in London, she believed that it was like a coffin and she wondered how they would do their cooking for Thanksgiving there because, for her, cooking was the most important part of Thanksgiving.

Her consistent complaints about what she felt the food in London would look like showed that she was particularly interested in food and cooking. It was only the presence of her brother that calmed her down everything in London seemed to annoy her.

The Book of Dragons
Chapter III The Deliverers of Their Country, an excerpt
By E. Nesbit

Part 2

The doctor was so pleased with the new specimen that he gave Effie a shilling, and presently the professor stepped round. He stayed to lunch, and he and the doctor quarreled very happily all the afternoon about the name and the family of the thing that had come out of Effie's eye.

But at teatime another thing happened. Effie's brother Harry fished something out of his tea, which he thought at first was an earwig. He was just getting ready to drop it on the floor, and end its life in the usual way, when it shook itself in the spoon—spread two wet wings, and flopped onto the tablecloth. There it sat, stroking itself with its feet and stretching its wings, and Harry said: "Why, it's a tiny newt!"

The professor leaned forward before the doctor could say a word. "I'll give you half a crown for it, Harry, my lad," he said, speaking very fast; and then he picked it up carefully on his handkerchief.

"It is a new specimen," he said, "and finer than yours, Doctor."

It was a tiny lizard, about half an inch long—with scales and wings.

So now the doctor and the professor each had a specimen, and they were both very pleased. But before long these specimens began to seem less valuable. For the next morning, when the knife-boy was cleaning the doctor's boots, he suddenly dropped the brushes and the boot and the blacking, and screamed out that he was burnt.

And from inside the boot came crawling a lizard as big as a kitten, with large, shiny wings.

"Why," said Effie, "I know what it is. It is a dragon like the one St. George killed."

And Effie was right. That afternoon Towser was bitten in the garden by a dragon about the size of a rabbit, which he had tried to chase, and the next morning all the papers were full of the wonderful "winged lizards" that were appearing all over the country. The papers would not call them dragons, because, of course, no one believes in dragons nowadays—and at any rate the papers were not going to be so silly as to believe in fairy stories. At first there were only a few, but in a week or two the country was simply running alive with dragons of all sizes, and in the air you could sometimes see them as thick as a swarm of bees. They all looked alike except as to size. They were green with scales, and they had four legs and a long tail and great wings like bats' wings, only the wings were a pale, half-transparent yellow, like the gear-boxes on bicycles.

What is the main idea of the last section?

Dragons were all over the country.
Dragons were burning people.
The dragons were the same size.
People did not believe in dragons.

The smell of smoke was in the air, music was blasting through the streets, and the stars looking for nice people. It was another family gathering that I wanted no part in. I made my way to the roof with a plate of food, I wasn’t really hungry. I set my plate on the side and lay on my back, while I looked at the stars I thought, how could something be so far away, yet still look so close. Ever since primary I’ve wanted to be an astronaut, I wonder if all those years hanging upside down the monkey bars had prepared me enough. I ended up falling asleep on the rooftop only to be awakened by my mother's yelling.

“Mija, (name 1) get down and say bye to the family!” My mother bickered.

I took one more glance at the stars and smiled.

16 years old

I was completing a packet for science when the principal pulled me out of class. Of course the class thought I was in trouble and did the classic “Oooo.” Once we were in the hallway the principal started crying, I was completely and utterly confused. She handed me an envelope with the word ‘NASA’ on the front. I slowly reached out my hand to take the envelope, once I had taken it I used the same speed to open it.

It read,’ Dear (full name 1), it has come to our attention that you would be an excellent addition to our youth space program. We will be transferring your studies to Washington, DC to one of our facilities. There will be a bus after school picking you up. Your parents have already been notified and have given consent. They have also packed all necessary things such as clothes and personal necessities. We hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,

NASA’

I showed no emotion, as usual and waited until the principal motioned for me to return to class. I stuffed the letter in my bag and waited for class to end. After the bell rang I waited till everyone was out of the classroom. There was no reason I waited, I think I waited because of the shock. I’ve wanted to work at NASA for the longest time and I finally have a chance to. I smiled, grabbed my backpack, and walked out. I saw the bus, it was less than half way filled with kids from other schools. I recognized some from sports, once I stepped up to the bus the doors opened with a loud creak. I thought of all buses NASA would have gone above and beyond to make sure everything was in outstanding condition.

Once I was on the bus I walked down the aisle and felt eyes all over me. I moved to the back of the bus, this bus was different from the school’s. Everyone was sitting in the front; it was nice sitting alone. We stopped at a few other schools, everyone continued to fill the front. The nearest person was six seats in front of me, almost everyone was paired up in seats. I was perfectly fine until one kid decided to sit by me, well he was in the seat next to me. I scooted close to the window while he sat on the edge of his seat. From the moment he stepped on the bus his smile never left his freckled face. He looked more like a football player than a science lover. The boy looked around my age, he had fluffy, unkempt hair. He had a simple white shirt with a blue jacket with yellow sleeves, the initial ‘(initial of name 2)’ on the front. His jeans were a light blue with grass stains on it, his shoes were a dirty white also with grass stains. When he first arrived on the bus he looked at every seat he passed, he just had to look up and see me. He had an obnoxiously large duffle bag that hit every seat he passed.

The drive to Washington was 27 hours long. Only 22 hours left, it was currently 9:15. Everyone was asleep except for me and the boy. I grabbed my mp.3 player from my backpack before I could put my headphones in the boy tapped my shoulder.

“Hey, I’m (nickname for name 2), short for (name 2).” He pointed to the ‘(initial of name 2)’ on his jacket while he talked and held out his hand.

“Hey, I’m (name 1).” I said while shaking his hand.
