I need to write a summary for this book Charlotte’s web can someone come up with something for me??

Answers

Answer:

(You might have to edit this but here you go)

Eight-year-old fern arable is devastated once she hears that her father is going to kill the runt of his pig’s new litter. Persuading him that the piggy features a right to life and promising to seem when it, she saves the animal and names him Wilbur. once Wilbur becomes too large, nonflowering plant is forced to sell him to her uncle, Homer Zuckerman, whose barn is crammed with animals who shun the newcomer.

once Wilbur discovers that he can before long be slaughtered for Christmas dinner, he's dreadfully distraught. He sits within the corner of the barn crying, “I don’t need to die.” Charlotte—the bushy Araneus cavaticus who lives within the rafters higher than his sty—decides to assist him. With the help of a sneaky rat named Templeton and a few of the opposite animals in the barn, she writes a message in her web: “Some Pig.” more unusual messages seem in the web, sparking folks from miles around to go to these “divine” manifestations and therefore the pig that impressed them. Charlotte accompanies Wilbur to the county fair, wherever she spins her last note: “Humble.” Wilbur wins a special prize, and his survival is ensured.

Read the sentence from The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin.

Hearing their conversations, and their accounts of the approbation their papers were received with, I was excited to try my hand among them; but, being still a boy, and suspecting that my brother would object to printing anything of mine in his paper if he knew it to be mine, I contrived to disguise my hand, and, writing an anonymous paper, I put it in at night under the door of the printing-house.

What does the use of the word anonymous suggest?

Select the two correct answers.

Franklin does not take credit for his writing.

Franklin lacks talent and experience as a writer.

Franklin fears his writing is not good enough to be printed.

Franklin wants to hide his identity as the writer of the paper.

Read the sentence from The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin.

I concluded, at length, that the mere speculative conviction that it was our interest to be completely virtuous was not sufficient to prevent our slipping; and that the contrary habits must be broken, and good ones acquired and established, before we can have any dependence on a steady, uniform rectitude of conduct.

Which saying from Poor Richard’s Almanac conveys a similar message?

“Well done is better than well said.”

“Don’t throw stones at your neighbors, if your own windows are glass.”

“‘Tis easier to prevent bad habits than to break them.”

“Keep your eyes wide open before marriage, half shut afterwards.”

In Common Sense, Paine asserts that Great Britain has ignored American efforts to coexist fairly and peacefully, so Americans have no choice but to fight for independence.

What reasoning does Paine use to support this point?

“I have heard it asserted by some, that as America hath flourished under her former connection with Great Britain, that the same connection is necessary towards her future happiness, and will always have the same effect."

“Our plan is commerce, and that, well attended to, will secure us the peace and friendship of all Europe; because it is the interest of all Europe to have America a free port.”

“Men of all ranks have embarked in the controversy, from different motives, and with various designs; but all have been ineffectual, and the period of debate is closed. Arms, as the last resource, decide the contest; the appeal was the choice of the king, and the continent hath accepted the challenge.…”

“Men of passive tempers look somewhat lightly over the offenses of Britain, and, still hoping for the best, are apt to call out, Come, we shall be friends again for all this.”

Read the excerpt from Common Sense.

Europe, and not England, is the parent country of America. This new world hath been the asylum for the persecuted lovers of civil and religious liberty from every part of Europe. Hither have they fled, not from the tender embraces of the mother, but from the cruelty of the monster; and it is so far true of England, that the same tyranny which drove the first emigrants from home pursues their descendants still.…

How does Paine’s style contribute to the persuasiveness of the text?

He refers to America as “the asylum for the persecuted” to warn readers not to trust any form of government, new or old.

Paine warns readers their freedom is in danger by comparing Great Britain’s actions to the “cruelty of the monster.”

He asserts that Europe is the “parent country” to suggest readers owe their allegiance to several foreign governments.

Paine reminds readers of the advantages of British rule by comparing it to “the tender embraces of the mother.”

Which detail from The American Crisis develops the key idea that people have a duty to act in the present to improve society for generations to come?

“Not a man lives on the continent but fully believes that a separation must some time or other finally take place, and a generous parent should have said, ‘If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace’…”

“I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection.”

“It matters not where you live, or what rank of life you hold, the evil or the blessing will reach you all.”

“Let it be told to the future world, that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive, that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet and to repulse it.”

Answers

1. The use of the word anonymous, from the Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, suggests these two points: a. Franklin does not take credit for his writing and d. Franklin wants to hide his identity as the writer of the paper.

2. The saying from Poor Richard's Almanac that conveys a similar message to "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin" is “Tis easier to prevent bad habits than to break them.”

3. The reasoning that Thomas Paine uses in "Common Sense" to support the point that Great Britain wanted war is Option C, wherein he asserted that taking to arms was the last resource to gain independence from Britain.

4. Paine's style of writing contributes to the persuasiveness of the text when "He asserts that Europe is the “parent country” to suggest readers owe their allegiance to several foreign governments."

Read the speech "Voluntourism: An Opportunity Too Good to be True" and consider the advertisement "The Opportunity of a Lifetime." Then, answer the question.

Voluntourism: An Opportunity Too Good to be True

A Speech to the Student Body of Evergreen High

[1] Picture this: It's Spring Break, and you fly off to some country where there's lush rainforests and beautiful, blue coastlines to explore. There's also people in need, so you decide to blend your vacation with volunteering. Volunteering as a tourist, or voluntourism, seems like a great way to explore new regions and help people at the same time. However, this "volunteer plus travel" experience can actually harm local communities. While many teens might view traveling and volunteering abroad as a worthwhile adventure, there are more genuine and effective ways to make a difference.

[2] Most would agree that volunteering in general is a worthy use of time. However, what if you found out the children you are "helping" are actually being kept in poor conditions so voluntourists will spend money to come to the local area? Dale Rolfe, a supporter of ethical voluntourism, explains the shocking reality that "Animal sanctuaries and orphanages are often manufactured for the voluntourist...encouraging a cycle of exploiting the very animals and children the volunteers are trying to help."

[3] Proponents of the "volunteer plus travel" experience also argue that traveling to new places builds character and is a valuable way to learn about different cultures. With voluntourism, however, participants often pursue experiences that are all about them. For example, they sign up to build a school for a gold star on their resume, but they have no real building skills and take jobs away from local construction workers (Schulten). Or, they arrive to teach English but instead take selfies with the locals. One world traveler and ethical voluntourist believes voluntourism "can perpetuate small minded views of the world by taking insulated, fake, and structured experiences and selling them as unabridged and eye opening" (Carlos). The voluntour experience is a mirage. The voluntourist's eyes are not opened to real life at the destination, and lasting change is not achieved.

[4] If you want a genuine experience where you can see a lasting impact, there are better options than voluntourism. You can volunteer in your local community. Give an hour every week to your town's animal rescue. Serve monthly dinners to the homeless. Be a reliable, positive influence on a child who needs a mentor. Studies show that volunteering and forming lasting relationships with those you help has a positive impact on your physical and emotional health. In fact, blood pressure is reduced, memory is improved, and rates of depression are reduced (Michaels).

[5] There is another reason to look into alternatives to voluntourism. Did you know the average "voluntour" travel package costs $3,400 (Rolfe)? Could that travel money be better spent? If the world's citizens are your passion, it could go to an international organization. If you care about education, your funds can be used to buy books for students in faraway lands. If you want villagers to have clean water, contribute funds to local efforts to dig wells. If you want to experience a different culture, travel to the country as a guest, and learn from the locals how you can best help them after you've returned home. But do not voluntour.

[6] In reality, there are better ways to make a difference. Voluntourism might appear to be an adventure that blends travel and helping others, but it does little except provide a costly, superficial experience that might actually do more harm than good. So, volunteer where you are most needed-at home, where you can stay to see the job through and form genuine, lasting relationships. Choose a beautiful coastline closer to home and send the travel money you saved to an international organization that will put it to good use. Whatever you do, don't turn someone else's hardship into your vacation.

"The Opportunity of a Lifetime"

A magazine advertisement with the title

Both texts (the speech and the advertisement) address voluntourism. However, each text has a different purpose, which is reflected by the details each writer chose to include. Consider the words and images used.

In a paragraph of 6-8 sentences, identify what each text emphasizes and explain how that emphasis helps accomplish each author's purpose. Be sure to state each text's purpose and include evidence from both texts to support your analysis.
