BRAINLIST FOR GOOD ANSWER
Interpreting the Source: This magazine article (Life magazine, April 18, 1955, page 168) titled “A Question of Questionable Meanings” appeared in 1955. As you read about the new music craze, think about why it alarmed many adults. After you read the following excerpt, answer the following question in a well-constructed paragraph of at least four to five sentences. Compare the two opinions about rock ‘n roll that are mentioned in the article. Is there any comparison that shows this problem still occurs between today’s youth and the older generation?

The heavy-beat and honking-melody tunes of today’s rock ‘n roll have a clearly defined ancestry in U.S. jazz going back to Louis Armstrong and Bessie Smith of 30 years ago. Once called “race” records, and later “rhythm and blues,” the music was first performed by [African Americans] and sold mostly in [African American] communities. During the past years as the big record companies concentrated on mambos and ballads, the country’s teen-agers found themselves without snappy dance tunes to their taste. A few disk jockeys filled the void with songs like Ko Ko Mo, Tweedlee Dee, Hearts of Stone, Earth Angel, Flip, Flop, and Fly, Shake, Rattle, and Roll, and the name rock ’n roll took over. On a list of 10 top juke box best-selling records last week, six were “r ‘n r.” But parents and police were startled by other rock ‘n roll records’words, which were frequently suggestive and occasionally lewd. Variety, the show business weekly, cranked out indignant [angry] stories about “leerics” in the rock ‘n roll or rhythm and blues songs. Cash Box, the juke box trade journal, countered that much of the suggestiveness was read into the songs by low-minded listeners and challenged anybody to find smut in the top rock ‘n roll numbers. By this time, however, the music had gained such an exaggerated reputation that the worst meanings could be found in the most innocent phrases. Radio, TV, and record censors listened not only to rock ‘n roll but also—with good reason—to the lyrics of pop records. But hardly a teen-ager afoot had time to listen. They all seemed to be busily and blithely [merrily] rockin’ and rollin’ around.

According to the article, the rock alarmed many adults due to its lewd content. Additionally, two opinions arose about rock, one of them condemned it for its lyrics and others enjoyed it for its musicality. This problem is no longer so noticeable in society although it still exists.

What is the snippet about?

The excerpt initially gives a brief description of the emergence of Rock and Roll from African-American music genres such as Rhythm and Blues and Jazz. Later he refers to the opinions that arose as a result of the analysis of some Rock songs, these opinions were against this genre because they pointed it out as lewd.

On the other hand, the position that is in favor of Rock understands that not all the lyrics have lewd meanings but were misinterpretations by adults who opposed rock. Additionally, they affirmed that the musicality of rock was an alternative to the need of young people for a sound that would allow them to dance energetically.

According to the above, it can be said that many adults were alarmed because the rock had lewd content. Additionally, two opinions arose about rock, one of them condemned it for its lyrics and others enjoyed it for its musicality. Finally, it should be noted that this problem is no longer so noticeable in society because people have a more open mind to new musical genres.

Define: continuity and transition in the context of an individual human lifespan.

Answers

Continuity: the constant process of development. It is the idea that human development is fluid or continuous and is not defined by huge changes or crises.

Discontinuity: the idea that, in human development, each stage of life comprises a series of tasks or skills to complete before progressing to the next developmental stage.

The epidemiologic transition describes changing patterns of population age distributions, mortality, fertility, life expectancy, and causes of death. A number of critiques of the theory have revealed limitations, including an insufficient account of the role of poverty in determining disease risk and mortality, a failure to distinguish adequately the risk of dying from a given cause or set of causes from the relative contributions of various causes of death to overall mortality, and oversimplification of the transition patterns, which do not fit neatly into either historical periods or geographic locations. Recent developments in epidemiologic methods reveal other limitations. A life course perspective prompts examination of changes in causal pathways across the life span when considering shifts in the age distribution of a population as described by the epidemiologic transition theory. The ecological model assumes multiple levels of determinants acting in complex and interrelated ways, with higher level determinants exhibiting emergent properties. Development, testing, and implementation of innovative approaches to reduce the risks associated with the sedentary lifestyle and hyper nutrition in developed countries should not overshadow the continuing threat from infectious diseases, especially resistant strains or newly encountered agents. Interventions must fit populations and the threats to health they experience, while anticipating changes that will emerge with success in some areas. This will require new ways of thinking that go beyond the epidemiologic transition theory.

How did Native Americans tackle cultural oppression that marginalized their status in American society during the twentieth century?

Native Americans had a difficult connection with European settlers during the colonial period. They fought European efforts to obtain greater land and power via both combat and diplomacy.

Political sovereignty, and especially the enforcement of treaty agreements, was a primary focus of indigenous activism from the late nineteenth century to the middle of the twentieth;

Local, regional, and pan-Indian resistance to the allotment of communally owned land, the mandatory attendance of children at boarding schools, and the termination of tribal rights and perquisites all grew from the basic tenets of the sovereignty movement.

By the mid-1960s, the civil rights movement had taught many individuals about the notion of equal treatment under the law—basically, the application of the sovereign entity's authority over the individual—and civil rights had joined sovereignty as a focal point of Indian action.

! The Roman Empire was one of the largest empires in history, spanning across three continents and ruling over millions of people. At its height, the empire reached from Britain in the west to the Euphrates River in the east, and from the Sahara Desert in the south to the Danube River in the north.

The Euphrates River played an important role in the history of the Roman Empire, as it marked the eastern boundary of the empire's territory. The river is one of the longest in western Asia, stretching over 1,700 miles from its source in Turkey to its mouth in the Persian Gulf. It flows through several modern-day countries, including Syria and Iraq, and was a vital source of water and irrigation for many ancient civilizations.

In the early years of the Roman Republic, the empire's territory only extended as far as Italy and Sicily. However, as the Roman Republic grew more powerful, it began to expand its territory through conquest and colonization. By the time of Julius Caesar's reign in the first century BCE, the Roman Empire had already conquered Gaul (modern-day France) and parts of Britain.

Under Emperor Trajan in the second century CE, the Roman Empire expanded its territory to its greatest extent. Trajan's conquests in the east brought the empire to the banks of the Euphrates River and added several new provinces to the empire, including Mesopotamia and Armenia. However, the vast size of the empire made it difficult to maintain control, and the Roman Empire eventually began to decline and fragment in the third and fourth centuries CE.

Today, the Euphrates River remains an important source of water for Iraq and other countries in the region. It is also home to many important historical sites, including the ancient city of Babylon and the ruins of the city of Mari, which was a major center of trade and commerce in the second millennium BCE.

Mendel observed how parental genes separated and if they showed up as dominant or recessive qualities in the children. He was aware of the mathematical patterns passed down from one generation to the following.
