The author uses foreshadowing to indicate that the narrator disliked school.
C.
The author uses flashback to show why the narrator did not pursue his dream of being an artist.
D.
The author uses foreshadowing to indicate that the narrator did not get along with his father.

passage:

The Dreamer

Dreams are beautiful. They go beyond your imagination and create a world so special that you start living in it. I was a dreamer once, so am I today. I still have the same dream that I once did as a young boy. The problem is that I grew but my dream did not. I always wanted to be an artist. I love colors, shades, the lines, and the smooth texture of canvas which gave life to what seemed to be a lifeless picture.

It all began in a boring math class. I never liked numbers as they never made any sense to me. For me, they never spoke a word. I started making ducks out of 5s and watermelons out of 0s before the math teacher caught me! The first time Mr. Potter warned me. But I could hardly sit through his classes. He caught me drawing once again in his class and that was it. My parents were called. Those days, they believed that painters and artists were drop outs who could not find any job. This was not the end. They told my parents that I would fail miserably if I were to take up arts. This upset them more than me. My father was a reputed professional and he expected me to become like him one day. He never understood why I could see ducks where others saw 5. I tried explaining it to him, but I guess he did not understand it.

“Those lines and shades you talk about do not exist,” he said. I did not understand where these numbers existed. He wanted me to graduate and take up a good job while I wanted to live my dreams. The fight went on. On a few occasions, my precious easel would be broken and thrown away. I had such a difficult time getting them. He was not like this earlier. He always used to get my favorite sketch books when I was young. I guess after that meeting with Mr. Potter, he changed into a different man.

“A few dream to fly, a few to protect the country and a few others to work in a decent job. What if I dream of colors and brushes?” I asked my father when I had the courage to do so. “Fly, if you want to, you will reach the sky. Protect the country, if you want to, you will make me proud. But you cannot take up what the drop outs choose to do. You cannot paint. You cannot make a living out of it,” stood out his words.

I wanted to get into the prestigious Sir Francoire Arts College and learn art, the way experts did. But there seemed to be no way to it. I later studied numbers and took up a job. I still live with the same dream -- To be an artist, to live, and dream like one!

Whether it's pizza, cereal, hamburgers, salad, or spaghetti, everyone loves food! However, buying food from a store can strain the environment, so it's important to try to minimize the damage. First of all, food has to be transported by truck to grocery stores or local markets. The farther food needs to travel, the more harmful toxins are released into the atmosphere. Furthermore, people also need to travel in a vehicle to do their grocery shopping, which also adds pollutants to the atmosphere. All of this transportation requires fossil fuels, and it emits greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide, into the air. To think green and help reduce harmful pollutants, there are things people can do. For example, people can plant a garden with fruits and vegetables. By growing a garden, people can reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere because the food will be in their own backyard. No travel would be required to get delicious fruits and veggies from a store. Another benefit of planting a garden is that adding plants to Earth offsets the amount of carbon dioxide emitted. This is because plants consume carbon dioxide. Luckily, planting a garden is a way to enjoy fresh foods, decrease the amount of carbon emitted into the atmosphere, and make our planet a healthier place.

One of the author's points is that buying food from a store negatively impacts the environment. How does the author use reasons and evidence to support the point? Use complete sentences and evidence to support your answer.

Question 8 Read the excerpt from Votes for Women:At the Seneca Falls Convention in July 1848, women like Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton signed the Declaration of Sentiments, a document expressing their concerns about the role of women in the United States. For example, at the time married women could not own property, and the education and employment of women was limited. These women decided that to change the law, women needed to be able to vote. Some thought that peaceful methods were the best way for the Women's Suffrage Movement to obtain its goal, while others believed that a more aggressive strategy was necessary. The peaceful approach in the Women's Suffrage Movement changed the United States over time. At first, there was resistance to the idea of women having the vote. Many believed that the practice of politics was masculine and men should vote on behalf of their wives and daughters. When African American men were granted the right to vote in the 15th Amendment, women of any race were not included. This decision discouraged many women, but they still organized themselves into groups, like the National American Woman Suffrage Association, in order to campaign for the vote. They argued that voting women would benefit society, and published newspaper articles and other literature about women's rights. From 1878 until 1920, the idea of women's suffrage was brought before Congress every year. In the meantime, women also campaigned for the vote in different states. During World War I, many women did jobs regularly done by men. Their contributions to the United States and the influence of Carrie Chapman Catt caused President Woodrow Wilson to finally support women's suffrage. The peaceful approach changed opinions over time and ultimately led to the 19th Amendment. What evidence does the author use to support the fact that the peaceful approach was the best way for women to get the vote?A.
