Answer:

From newspaper to cellphone

Explanation:

In the heydays of printed news - and before television - the newspaper was the most reliable source of information. But the distribution was limited.  Radio and television helped to spread the news around the world in a much quicker way, albeit the latter lost most of its informative character and turned into an amusement provider.

With the digital age the distribution of news covered the whole world, except for some remote and isolated places. But once again the quality of information lessened as the quantity improved. Now we are in a century where information travels with the speed of light along the globe but its actuality (twitter for example) is very often more important than its accuracy.

So news is more democratically distributed, but in the process it has become less democratic in character.

Being bilingual has benefits
Several of the benefits of being bilingual are pretty
obvious. If you speak more than one language, you can
communicate with a lot more people. For instance, there

both languages, you can double the number of
conversations you can have. When you're first learning a

Compare Huck’s conversation with Buck with the conversation about killing among Huck, Tom, and the other boys in Chapter Two.

Answers

Answer:

Huck's conversation with Buck is about killing for honor, albeit a forgotten honor, while the conversation among Huck and the other boys is about killing because that's what robbers do.

Both conversations are about killing for principle.

Explanation:

Buck told Huck about the feud between his family and the Shepherdsons and explained why he has got to kill any he comes across because of it, but he doesn't know the reason why, he just knows he must "Why, nothing-only its on account of the feud."

When Huck was with the gang of boys they talked about robbing people and killing them, because "Oh certainly. It's best. Some authorities think differently, but its considered best to kill them-except some that you bring to the cave here and keep them till they're ransomed."

The two conversations are both about killing people because they think they must kill people, without actually knowing the reason why they must do so. In the one with Buck and Huck, its killing due to the feud even though no one knows what it was about.

In the conversation with Huck and the other boys, it was killing because killing is what robbers do, there's no reason why.

Nights and Dragons—
From the memoir of author Abigail Prynne

1
I sit at my desk listening to thunder growl outside my window. Flashes of light burst through the darkness, and wind races past my window. The thrilling combination of sight and sound conjures up visions of dragons roaring proudly, breathing fire, and soaring across the midnight sky. Dragons first fascinated me when I was a little girl. They have followed me ever since. The magnificent creatures appeared in storybooks I read in the library, paintings I saw in museums, movies I watched in the theater, and the dreams I had in my sleep. By the time I was thirteen, one question consumed me. I wanted to know if dragons ever existed, so I set out on a quest for facts.
2
As I started my research, I discovered many skeptics. Scientists presented evidence to show why dragons could not—and did not—exist. They explained that it would be impossible for dragons to fly because they would be too big. They laughed at the idea of dragons breathing fire. They pointed out that no other animal has ever done this. They said that if dragons had lived, someone would have found remains somewhere in the world. No bones about it, there were plenty of logical explanations. It would have been easy for me to accept that the only place dragons ever existed was in the imaginations of those who believed.
3
I could have given up, but I thought about my grandmother. She always told me that "people who believe that science is the answer to everything are missing out on everything else." With her words in mind, I searched some more. There were many facts that hinted that dragons may not be fictional. I noticed that cultures across the world all described dragons in similar ways. This was odd because they had no way to communicate with each other. I found dragons mentioned in more than just stories. They appeared in old legal papers, in the travel logs of Marco Polo, and in the Bible. I saw that the Chinese calendar uses a different animal each year. Dragons are included along with eleven real animals. I began to believe it was a real possibility that all of these people were talking about a creature that actually existed.
4
With renewed hope that there was some truth to the legends, I looked for new research. I found that some experts disagreed with popular arguments against dragons. They suggested that a dragon could have four stomachs like a cow. If it created stomach gases like birds, it might create enough to lift itself off the ground. This would give it the ability to fly. If it forced out air when diving toward the earth, it might release gases which could ignite into flame. When the animal died, the stomachs would release strong acids that would dissolve its dead body over time. Biologists backed up these ideas with sketches and models based on known animals. Not everyone agreed with these ideas, but many of the things we accept about dinosaurs and other extinct species started the same way.
5
I doubt we will ever truly know whether dragons existed. There may always be two sides to the fiery debate. Some will say the stories come from active imaginations. Some will believe with all their hearts that the legendary creatures roamed our ancient world. I don't know for certain which side to believe, but the sound and fury of a night like this makes me smile. It rekindles my childhood dreams and keeps the exciting possibility alive.

Which best states the main idea of the text?

The wind would spin the blades of the windmill, rotate the magnets in a dynamo, and create electricity. Attach a wire to the dynamo and you could power anything, especially a bulb. All I needed was a windmill, and then I could have lights. No more kerosene lamps that burned our eyes and sent us gasping for breath. Which word best completes the sentence?

- Peak is the word that best accomplishes the sentence.

- 'Climbing for hours' is the context clue that supports the above answer.

Explanation:

In the given sentence, the most appropriate word to complete the sentence would be 'peak' as it appropriately goes with the context. The word 'peak' implies 'end or top of anything' which is contextually relevant to the meaning of the sentence implying that 'the hikers finally reached the top(of the mountain) after hours of arduous efforts in climbing it'. Explain whether her friends’ zombie trick helped the main character feel mentally prepared for the “Zombie 5K.” Use evidence from the text to support your answer.

Answers

Answer:

Her friends’ zombie trick did help the main character feel more mentally prepared for the “Zombie 5K.” Before her friends helped her out, she did not know what it would feel like to run while being chased by zombies. At the end of the story, she knows that she can complete the physical tasks of the race even while panicking and being chased. The text indicates this when Kristen says the main character “owned” the obstacle course while under pressure; the main character agrees and says she is not nervous about the race anymore. The fact that she says “anymore” indicates that she was nervous about the race before the zombie chase, but not now. This shows that she feels mentally prepared. The main character also starts laughing after she realizes how well she handled the obstacle course, even though she had been scared in the moment—this too indicates mental preparedness.

The correct answer is B. Time

Explanation:

The text presented explains the way researchers from the University of Arizona studied how much women and men speak. In sentence 2 "Researchers from the University of Arizona placed microphones..." and sentence 3 "Then they sampled their conversation..." the process is explained by using a sequence structure. In this way, the process of placing microphones in women and men precedes the process of sampling the conversation, this relationship in time is suggested by the word "then" that connects both sentences. This means sentences 2 and 3 have a relationship of time because they describe stages that occurred at different times during research.
