Story Description:

Who are the prophets in your life—you know, the people who make you think about the truly important things? Susan, the narrator in "Hamadi," finds her own prophet of sorts, a family friend from her homeland in the Middle East, whose outlook on life and sage advice are gifts he bestows on everyone he meets.

This region includes the nations of Israel, Iraq, Lebanon, and Palestine, which border the Mediterranean Sea. Historically, the Middle East has been involved in many complex conflicts rooted in issues of land, religion, and politics. In fact, deadly conflicts are ongoing now. The Prophet was published in 1928 by Lebanese author Kahlil Gibran. The book contains spiritual and philosophical essays on subjects dealing with love, sorrow, pain, freedom, marriage, death, friendship—the things of life no matter where you live.

Write a letter to your aunt telling her about the visit of two relatives form abroad

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

Dear beloved aunt Gianna,

I'm delighted to inform you that recently cousin Sandra and her husband paid us a visit! They flew all the way from Italy, and stayed with us for a couple weeks. Upon their arrival, Jane was practically being carried by Phillip. I know you thought at first he was the unreliable sort, but since she got pregnant he's become quite the serious sort indeed.

Due to the pregnancy, we were hesitant to do anything much, but Sandra has always been the adventurous type. She insisted on going out, seeing all the shops, and even wanted to go to the fair that was in town and ride something. Even I had to side with Phillip on that one, but we ended up compromising and getting her some funnel cake instead.

All in all, it was a very good time, and although I was sad to see them go, I was excited to be able to write to you and tell you about our time together. When will you be visiting? I know you don't like getting out, so maybe next summer I'll come to you instead!

Sincerely,

Read this passage from “The Masque of the Red Death.” What is the meaning of the phrase “pest ban”?

The "Red Death" had long devastated the country. No pestilence had ever been so fatal, or so hideous. Blood was its Avatar and its seal --the redness and the horror of blood. There were sharp pains, and sudden dizziness, and then profuse bleeding at the pores, with dissolution. The scarlet stains upon the body and especially upon the face of the victim, were the pest ban which shut him out from the aid and from the sympathy of his fellow-men. And the whole seizure, progress and termination of the disease, were the incidents of half an hour.

Man vs. Self

Answers

Answer: The conflicts in the story are "man vs. man and man vs. himself.

Explanation:

In part of the excerpt: "If Jim doesn't kill me,” she said to herself, “before he takes a second look at me, he'll say I look like a Coney Island chorus girl. But what could I do—oh! what could I do with a dollar and eighty-seven cents?”

She's torn about what she's doing in cutting off her hair— man vs. himself because apparently, she is having problems with her own hair, which makes that man vs. himself.  She is anticipating a conflict with Jim—man vs. man because she is saying she will kill Jim, which will lead to a fight, and a fight is a conflict.
