People do not always do the things we want them to do. No matter how reasonable or minimal our expectations may be, there are times when we are let down. Naturally, we feel upset and hurt when our expectations are not met. We dread confrontations because they are unpleasant and can damage relationships. Yet not confronting a person does not solve the problem because unresolved issues also affect relationships in an adverse way. Actually, the real problem lies in our style of confrontation, not in the issue. Typically, we use character-based confrontations. They help in venting our anger and hurt, but that is the only thing they do. They lead to angry show-downs and bring all discussions to a grinding halt.
It is important to remember that self-image is the most important possession of all human beings. It is the way we view and regard ourselves in our own eyes and in the eyes of others. As self-conscious beings, we are acutely aware of our image and constantly work towards protecting it from any damage. We also seek approval from others about our own self-image. We feel distraught if we sense that there is even a slight threat to our self image, because our character is the essence of our lives.
To ensure a rational dialogue over dashed expectations, we need to deploy issue based confrontations. They involve an explanation of which actions have bothered us, in what manner and what changes we would like from the other person.
When using issue-based confrontations, it is important to:
Stay calm: It can be difficult to remain calm when we feel upset or hurt, but it is important to avoid reacting with anger or aggression. Take a deep breath and try to approach the situation in a calm and rational manner.
Be specific: Clearly articulate the specific behavior or action that has caused the problem. Use specific examples and avoid making generalizations or attacking the person's character.
Express how you feel: It is important to express how the behavior or action has made you feel, but avoid placing blame or accusing the other person. Use "I" statements to express your own feelings and avoid using "you" statements that can sound accusatory.
Propose a solution: Instead of simply expressing your grievances, propose a solution or suggest a change in behavior that would resolve the issue.
By using issue-based confrontations, we can have more productive conversations that lead to positive outcomes and stronger relationships.

Read the excerpt from Up from Slavery by Booker T. Washington.
Our greatest danger is that in the great leap from slavery to freedom we may overlook the fact that the masses of us are to live by the productions of our hands, and fail to keep in mind that we shall prosper in proportion as we learn to dignify and glorify common labour and put brains and skill into the common occupations of life; shall prosper in proportion as we learn to draw the line between the superficial and the substantial, the ornamental gewgaws of life and the useful. No race can prosper till it learns that there is as much dignity in tilling a field as in writing a poem. It is at the bottom of life we must begin, and not at the top. Nor should we permit our grievances to overshadow our opportunities.
Read the excerpt from The Souls of Black Folk by W. E. B. Du Bois.
And Mr. Washington thus faces the triple paradox of his career:
1. He is striving nobly to make Negro artisans business men and property-owners; but it is utterly impossible, under modern competitive methods, for workingmen and property-owners to defend their rights and exist without the right of suffrage.
2. He insists on thrift and self-respect, but at the same time counsels a silent submission to civic inferiority such as is bound to sap the manhood of any race in the long run.
3. He advocates common-school and industrial training, and depreciates institutions of higher learning; but neither the Negro common-schools, nor Tuskegee itself, could remain open a day were it not for teachers trained in Negro colleges, or trained by their graduates.
Which statement best compares the claims of the two arguments?
Washington thinks that agricultural work should be championed as a way to advance, while Du Bois looks down on industrial labor.
Washington promotes manual labor as a path to success, while Du Bois argues that higher education supports other types of success.
Washington declares that most people can be successful at farming their own property, while Du Bois says that owning property is impossible.
Washington says that time spent arguing about inequalities undermines opportunities, while Du Bois advocates for civic activism.
Statement "Washington says that time spent arguing about inequalities undermines opportunities, while Du Bois advocates for civic activism." best compares the claims of the two arguments. So the option D is correct.
Washington contends that the time spent debating disparities may be better utilized by concentrating on enhancing chances. Along with promoting common-school and industrial training, he also encourages thrift and self-respect.
Du Bois, on the other hand, is promoting civic activity since he contends that workingmen and property owners cannot defend their rights without the right to vote. He also makes the point that if it weren't for teachers who were taught at or by alumni of Negro universities, the Negro common-schools and Tuskegee itself would not exist.
Washington essentially urges people to concentrate on enhancing their prospects and talents, whereas Du Bois promotes civic activity to defend and advance rights. So the option D is correct.

In act one, the Stage Manager describes the time capsule that the townspeople plan to put in the bank cornerstone, saying:
We’re putting in a Bible…and the Constitution of the United States—and a copy of William Shakespeare’s play. What do you say, folks? What do you think?
Y’know—Babylon once had two million people in it, and all we know about ‘em is the names of the kings and some copies of wheat contracts…and contracts for the sale of slaves. Yet every night all those families sat down to supper, and the father came home from his work, and the smoke went up the chimney, --same as here. And even in Greece and Rome, all we know about the real life of the people is what we can piece together out of the joking poems and the comedies they wrote for the theatre back then.
So I’m going to have a copy of this play put in the cornerstone and the people a thousand years from now’ll know a few simple facts about us—more than the Treaty of Versailles and the Lindbergh flight.
See what I mean?
So—people a thousand years from now—this is the way we were in the provinces north of New York at the beginning of the twentieth century. —This is the way we were: in our growing up and in our marrying and in our living and in our dying (Wilder 33).
The Stage Manager wants to leave a record of everyday life for future generations to find so that people who find the time capsule will know what life was like beyond just the historical facts and major events.
Besides the items listed in the passage above, what else would you have included in the time capsule that would accurately portray daily life in Grover’s Corners? Select items that you would include in the time capsule in addition to the items already listed. You must choose at least two items, and explain your reasoning clearly. What would people far in the future learn about daily life from your choices? In 150-200 words, justify your choices by explaining why you think those items should also be included in the time capsule. Take time to consider the less obvious choices or items that were special because they had significance behind them.
Answer:
Explanation:
In addition to the items already listed by the Stage Manager, I would include a family photo album and a cookbook.
A family photo album would give future generations a glimpse into the lives of ordinary people in Grover’s Corners. They could see what people looked like, how they dressed, and what kinds of activities they enjoyed. The album would show families gathering together for holidays, children playing with friends, and couples getting married. By looking at the photos, people in the future could get a sense of what daily life was like for the people of Grover’s Corners.
A cookbook would also be a valuable addition to the time capsule. It would show what kinds of foods were popular in the early 1900s and how they were prepared. Recipes for dishes like pot roast, apple pie, and biscuits would be included, as well as instructions for canning and preserving fruits and vegetables. By including a cookbook, people in the future would be able to learn about the diet and culinary traditions of the people of Grover’s Corners.
Overall, by including a family photo album and a cookbook in addition to the Bible, Constitution, and Shakespeare play, future generations would gain a more complete understanding of daily life in Grover’s Corners. They would see not only the important documents and cultural artifacts of the time, but also the personal experiences and traditions that shaped the lives of ordinary people.

Aubrette, who went by Aubry, had a fairytale life until her mother passed away when she was twelve. After her mother's death, her fairytale world crumbled, and reality began to set in. The first sign of this was the loss of her mother, who was like a fairy godmother to her. Now, she felt like she had lost both her mother and her fairy godmother. Then, her family moved away, which was something that never happened to princesses unless a prince was involved. She had to leave all of her friends behind, and when she started attending a new school, she encountered people who were not kind to her. It was three years later, Aubry had given up on her “fairytale” and gave in to reality. At the beginning of 10th grade, she decided to change her wardrobe. She put on a black jumper top and a pair of black and white checkered pants.
She looked at the time on her phone. 7:34. She was going to be late if she didn’t hurry up. She went over to her bathroom and picked up her hairbrush. how are monthly life annuity benefit payments treated under a tax sheltered annuity (tsa)?
Monthly life annuity benefit payments under a tax-sheltered annuity (TSA) are treated as a mix of taxable income and non-taxable return of investment. When you receive payments from a TSA, also known as a 403(b) plan, a portion of each payment represents the return of your non-taxable contributions, while the remaining portion is considered taxable income.
The taxable portion of the annuity payments is subject to federal income tax at your ordinary income tax rate. The non-taxable portion is a return of your initial investment, which has already been taxed. To determine the non-taxable portion, the IRS uses the Simplified Method, which involves dividing your investment by a specific number of payments based on your age and the age of your beneficiary, if applicable.
In summary, monthly life annuity benefit payments from a TSA are treated as partially taxable and partially non-taxable, with taxes owed on the taxable portion at your ordinary income tax rate.
