Answers

Answer 1

In Shakespeare's play Macbeth, Ross describes how Macbeth's newfound power as the king has corrupted him and driven him to madness.

Ross explains that Macbeth's mind is constantly plagued with guilt and paranoia, and he is unable to trust anyone, not even his closest allies. Macbeth's obsession with maintaining his power has turned him into an evil and tyrannical ruler who will stop at nothing to retain his throne.

Ross also notes how others perceive Macbeth, and the impact his actions have had on his reputation. Once seen as an honorable and brave soldier, Macbeth's descent into madness and corruption has caused him to lose the respect and admiration of those around him. His actions have also caused chaos and unrest in the kingdom, with many questioning his legitimacy as a ruler.

Overall, Ross's description of Macbeth highlights the destructive nature of corruption and the dangers of unchecked ambition and power. Macbeth's downfall serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of succumbing to the temptations of power and the importance of maintaining one's integrity and values.

Answers

Respected Principal, teachers, and my dear fellow students,

Today, I stand before you to talk about the role of youth in realizing the dreams of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, one of the most inspiring personalities of our times. Dr. Kalam was not only a great scientist and a visionary leader, but also a role model for the youth of our nation. He believed that young people have the power to transform our society and make it a better place for all.

Dr. Kalam had a vision of a prosperous and inclusive India, where every citizen has equal rights and opportunities. He believed that it is the youth who can turn this vision into reality by actively participating in various social, economic and political activities. Let us take a look at some of the ideas that Dr. Kalam promoted, and how we, as the youth of the nation, can realize his dreams.

Firstly, Dr. Kalam emphasized the importance of fighting for equal rights. He believed that every citizen, regardless of their caste, creed or religion, should have the right to live with dignity and respect. As young people, we can take up this challenge by raising our voices against any form of discrimination and standing up for the rights of the marginalized communities.

Secondly, Dr. Kalam believed in fighting corruption as one of the biggest obstacles to the progress of our nation. As young people, we can pledge to be honest, ethical and responsible citizens, and refuse to engage in any form of corruption, however small it may be. We can also raise our voices against corruption and demand greater transparency and accountability in public life.

Thirdly, Dr. Kalam believed in empowering the masses through education and skill development. As young people, we can take up this challenge by volunteering in community service activities and helping to spread awareness about the importance of education and skill development. We can also use our skills and knowledge to mentor and guide younger children, and help them realize their full potential.

Fourthly, Dr. Kalam encouraged young people to look for jobs within the country, instead of going abroad. He believed that our country has immense potential and that it is the youth who can unlock this potential and turn it into a reality. As young people, we can take up this challenge by exploring various career opportunities within the country, and contributing to the growth and development of our nation.

Fifthly, Dr. Kalam believed in active involvement in social issues, and encouraged young people to take up causes that they feel passionate about. As young people, we can take up this challenge by participating in various social movements and campaigns, and working towards the betterment of our society.

Sixthly, Dr. Kalam believed in promoting national integration, and stressed the importance of unity in diversity. As young people, we can take up this challenge by respecting and celebrating the diversity of our nation, and by working towards building bridges across different communities and regions.

Lastly, Dr. Kalam believed in equal participation of women in all fields, and believed that empowering women is crucial for the progress of our nation. As young people, we can take up this challenge by supporting and promoting women's rights, and by actively working towards creating a more gender-equal society.

In conclusion, I would like to say that Dr. Kalam's dreams can only be realized if the youth of the nation come together and work towards a common goal. Let us take up his challenge and work towards building a better future for ourselves and for our nation.

Thank you.

Passage 1
On Board the Mermaid

The Mermaid left the shores of England on December 28, 2014. There were 150 passengers on board the ship, who wanted to welcome the New Year 2015 in Nice, France. The passengers, dressed in colorful holiday clothes and hats, were excited. Quite a few of the passengers had already made friends and were chatting loudly. There was an air of excitement everywhere. However, the journey started on a wrong note.
The departure was delayed because a celebrity guest was late coming in, and therefore the ship had to wait an extra 30 minutes before it could begin its voyage. As if that was not enough, there were technical problems that delayed the departure by another 60 minutes. By then, the enthusiasm and the excitement of the passengers had dampened somewhat! Everyone decided to have an early night that day!
On December 29, the sea was calm and there was a cool breeze blowing. Most of the passengers were enjoying themselves on the deck, swimming, sunbathing, or just relaxing on sun loungers. However, soon after lunch, quite a few passengers reported falling ill. Andy, the physician on board the ship, was on his toes, tending to the ailing passengers. He declared that it could have had something to do with what the passengers ate. Thankfully, after taking medication, the passengers reported that they felt better.
On December 30, the weather grew rough. The children and the older passengers were the ones who were most affected by this unexpected change in the weather condition. The doctor was again busy attending to passengers who were becoming sick from the ship being tossed by waves. Some passengers were panicking and the doctor had to spend time trying to calm them down. There was no time to eat, let alone get some rest. The doctor was tired and hoped the next couple of days would be better.

Passage 2
All is Well That Ends Well

It was past midnight when Andy finished attending to the last passenger. He was dead on his feet. His eyes were red due to lack of sleep. He could barely keep his eyes open. He felt his stomach rumbling, but he knew he was too tired to eat anything. More than food he needed to get some sleep. He dragged himself to his cabin and fell wearily into his bunk. He did not bother to change his clothes. As soon as his head touched the pillow, he fell into a deep slumber. Soon he was fast asleep. "Andy . . .Andy, are you all right?" From the deep recesses of his mind, he could hear his friend Gary's voice. He did not want to get up. He wanted to continue to sleep forever.
"Oh, go away. Let me get some sleep," mumbled Andy. He was so tired he could barely open his eyes. He felt irritated with Gary for disturbing him and not letting him continue to sleep. Andy pushed himself further under the blanket and tried to ignore Gary. He covered his head with a pillow and tried to block Gary's voice.
Gary knew that Andy had been working hard for the last 2 days. He was aware that he had skipped meals and had barely slept. It was bad luck that the passengers suffered from food poisoning and the effects of a rough sea, and at the time, the second doctor was on leave. Gary could understand why Andy was tired.
"Andy, you have been sleeping for 18 hours now. Get up and get ready. We will soon reach France," Gary called out excitedly. Andy forced himself to slowly open his eyes. Gary's words felt like music to his ears. He was now feeling better because he knew another physician would be joining the team once they arrived in France.

"The Dome of Night" and "Where Would You Be" are both poems by the American poet, Robert Frost. However, they differ in their themes and subject matter.

Compare and contrast the two given poems.

"The Dome of Night" is a meditation on the vastness and mystery of the night sky, exploring themes of transcendence and spiritual longing. Frost uses vivid and lyrical language to evoke the beauty and awe-inspiring qualities of the stars and the universe, conveying a sense of wonder at the mysteries of the cosmos.

On the other hand, "Where Would You Be" is a more personal and introspective poem that explores themes of regret and missed opportunities. Frost uses the metaphor of a fork in the road to reflect on the choices that we make in life and the paths that we take, asking the reader to consider where they would be if they had taken a different path. The poem conveys a sense of melancholy and nostalgia, with Frost reflecting on the inevitability of loss and change.

Overall, while both poems share Frost's signature attention to language and imagery, they differ in their subject matter and themes, with "The Dome of Night" exploring the mysteries of the cosmos and "Where Would You Be" reflecting on the choices and regrets of human life.

As per the summary of Heidi by Johanna Spyri- Option (C.) She carries them in her arms to the top of the hill.

It is so because it is the only option that matches the information given in the summary of chapter 2 of Heidi by Johanna Spyri. The summary does not mention Heidi putting on her shoes, stockings, shawl, and Sunday dresses again after taking them off, nor does it mention her leaving them behind on the hill or asking Peter to carry them for her. Therefore, the only logical conclusion is that she carried them in her arms to the top of the hill where Grandfather's hut was located. This option also shows Heidi's independence and resourcefulness, as she does not rely on anyone else to help her with her belongings.
