The greatest American patriot army officer on the western border and during American Revolutionary War was George Rogers Clark, a surveyor, soldier, and military officer from Virginia. He led the army in Kentucky for the most of the conflict. He is best renowned for his victories in the Illinois Campaign, namely the seizure of Kaskaskia (1778) & Vincennes (1779), which significantly reduced British influence inside the Northwest Territory. Clark is frequently referred to as the Liberator of the Old Northwest, and the British handed the whole Northwest Territory to the USA in the 1783 Treaty of Paris.
