Lago claims that Cassio has admitted to having an intimate with Desdemona in a conversation with Othello. Othello finds this information too overwhelming and collapses after becoming delirious. Lago asserts that Othello has epilepsy and has had episodes in the past as Cassio comes in act iv, scene I which leads you to the conclusion.
Lago is aware that Cassio has been appointed commander in Cyprus and that Othello has been ordered back to Venice, therefore he is aware that the murders must be carried out right away or he will be discovered. Increasing Lodovico's concern that Othello may be losing his mind, he suggests to him that he should be kept under observation. But this is only a prelude to the subject, the handkerchief, that Iago has found may most readily arouse Othello's feelings. Iago plays at thinking it's just a handkerchief, but Othello pretends to think it represents his wife's honor by saying, "being hers, she may, I think, bestowed on any man."
