Writing Prompt: Write a response in which you describe two distinct themes, or central

ideas, in Of Plymouth Plantation. Cite evidence from the text to support your

understanding of these themes. In your response, include examples of rhetoric from the

text and explain how the use of rhetoric helps to support the themes.

Answers

Answer 1

Answer and Explanation:

One of the most easily recognized themes in "Of Plymouth Plantation" is the aversion that Bradford presents when talking about Native Americans. In chapter 4 of book 1, we can see that Bradford uses logos to claim that Native Americans are not human beings. This can be seen through the lines "Those vast and unpeopled countries of America ... [were] ... devoid of all civilized inhabitants and given over to savages ... differing little from the wild beasts themselves," where Bradford reinforces that if America is unpopulated, it is logical to say that its inhabitants are not human, but something close to animals, without civilization and lost in the wild. This shows the European position in relation to indigenous tribes, which provides us with a preview of the European attempt to subdue and dominate the natives.

Another easily identifiable theme is the certainty that the difficulties will be overcome. Still in chapter 4 of the first book, we can see that Bradford says "All great and honorable actions are accompanied with great difficulties, and must be both met and overcome with answerable courage," which shows that he observed all the challenges that the colonists faced in America they would be rewarded if they faced them with courage. That's because for Bradford, they were doing something honorable, very big and very complicated, but that would train and test their merit to be rewarded.

Answers

Answer:

D. He encourages people to accept change without fear.

Explanation:

Mr. French encouraged all the teachers in the meeting to accept change without fear. This was because of the apprehension that loomed over them as they learned of the new middle school that was to be built by the school board. Most of the teachers including the Principal feared that they might lose their jobs. Mrs. Green believed that the change would affect her since she was not so skilled in the use of computers.

Mr. French was the voice of reason in the room who allayed the fears of the teachers by assuring them that they could adjust to change just as their graduating students adjusted to change in their new schools.

“‘I wanted the ideal animal to hunt,’ explained the general. ‘So I said, `What are the attributes of an ideal quarry?' And the answer was, of course, `It must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason.’

what's the topic of this whole thing and the theme of it

Answers

Answer:

The topic of the paragraph is wartime and the theme is that those who choose to participate in war are selfish people who show very little compassion for human life.

Explanation:

The general starts the paragraph by saying he wanted an ideal animal to hunt, and upon further questioning by the speaker, reveals that the parameters he believes are ideal are that it is an animal that has courage, is cunning, and must be able to reason. As humans are the only animal that can reason, the general is basically stating that he treats human life just as a hunter treats its prey, to be killed for no reason other than sport. The author wants the reader to understand that those who make a conscious decision to become involved in wartime affairs functionally do so simply to kill others for enjoyment, as is shown by the general's reasoning for becoming a general.

. Which of the aforementioned unique characteristic of earth do you like the most
and why?

Answers

Answer:

An unique characteristic of the Earth is that our planet is located in a specific area of the solar system where water can easily be found in liquid form.

And even if Earth is not the only celestial body of the solar system where water can be liquid, it is the place with the highest amount of liquid water in proportion to its total mass.

The importance of this characteristic is that water is a very important source for life because it is the best chemical solvent, meaning that molecules can easily form, merge, and break up, inside a water solution.

Suppose that the equations for the supply and demand of a good are given as follows:
Qd = 120 - 3P
Qd=120−3P
Qs=30
At the equilibrium price and quantity, what is producer surplus? Select an answer and submit it. For keyboard navigation, use the up/down arrow keys to select an answer.
a $450 b $600 c $900 d $1200

Answers

The producer surplus is  $900 as per the information provided. So, option c is correct.

The supply and demand of a good are as follows:

Qd = 120 - 3PQs = 30

At equilibrium price and quantity:

Qd = Qs120 - 3P = 30P = (120 - 30)/3P = 30

Therefore, the equilibrium price is 30.Using the demand equation:

Qd = 120 - 3PQd = 120 - 3(30)

Qd = 120 - 90Qd = 30Therefore, the equilibrium quantity is 30.

Now we can calculate producer surplus using the following formula:

Producer Surplus = Total Revenue - Variable Cost

Total Revenue = Price x Quantity

Total Revenue = 30 x 30

Total Revenue = 900

Variable Cost = 0 (since the supply curve is a horizontal line

)Producer Surplus = Total Revenue - Variable Cost

Producer Surplus = 900 - 0

Producer Surplus = $900

Therefore, the answer is c) $900.

Answer:

The slowing of the pace creates suspense for readers about what is to come.

The slowing of the pace gives readers details about the storm and its aftermath.

Explanation:

We often prefer narratives with faster rhythms, but slow rhythms are very important and constitute an important element in the narrative, being able to create suspense and leave the reader motivated and anxious about the events that will happen. In addition, the slowdown can provide explanations about the reason that possible facts occurred and possible elements happened in the narrative, in addition to showing the details of these elements and situations. This would never be possible in a fast-paced narrative where events are shown in a rush and frantic manner.

Examples of effects of the slow narration can be seen in animal farm as follows:

The slowing of the pace shows readers the cause of the windmill's destruction. The slowing of the pace creates suspense for readers about what is to come. The slowing of the pace gives readers details about the storm and its aftermath.
