When you were walking on the beach, you found a very old bottle. By rubbing the bottle with your hand, a blue genie comes out. He says, “Your wishes are orders. Since I've been in the bottle for so long, I'll grant you five wishes instead of three. What do you want me to do for you? ”
Write five complete sentences explaining what you want the genie to do using the subjunctive.
Hey there! I'm happy to help!
-------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT IS THE SUBJUNCTIVE?
The subjunctive is used for a verb when something could or could not happen. If you want to say "If you do that, it will be bad", you are saying that the person could do that or they might not. In this case, we will use the subjunctive.
You can also use this tense to give commands, wishes, or hopes. If want to tell someone "I want you to look, please", you are basically saying that you want them to look. They might do it, but they might not. This is why they use the subjunctive. You don't know if they will listen, but you hope that they will.
Also, with the subjunctive, there is not a separate conjugation for I and he,she,it. They will be the same.
To find the subjunctive tense of a verb, you will give -ar verbs the endings of the -er, and you will give the -er and -ir verbs the endings of the -ar verbs. As always, there are a few exceptions to these rules. For example, the él/ellaústed subjunctive of tener is tenga, poner is ponga, salir, is salga, etc. The main irregularities are with those verbs that have the -go ending when conjugated to the yo form normally.
