What deal did Roosevelt make to get the canal and why was he criticized?

Answers

Answer (Briefed and Short):

The French Canal Property and Equipment were to be purchased by the United States for a price not to exceed $40 million in 1902. The United States and Colombia then started drafting a deal on Panama. The American Department of War would oversee the dig. Roosevelt's detractors began referring to his methods as "Big Stick Diplomacy." It was a sarcastic manner of criticizing the president for resorting to force rather than engaging in conventional international diplomacy (dialogue). Find Panama, Colombia, and the Panama Canal on the map below.

Longer Answer:

At a period when the American railway system was still developing, Roosevelt sought to connect the Eastern and Western coasts of the country in an effort to unify the country.

Additionally, by building a canal across Central America, the United States could project its naval force in both oceans with a single fleet that could move quickly between them rather of having to construct two distinct fleets (one for each ocean).

Both goals were met, and the canal ended up being a great investment for the United States.

Since the canal was quickly turning into more of a political liability than an asset (i.e. projecting an image of U.S. colonialism) due to the development of the modern U.S. transportation system (such as railways and highways) and the "carrier attack group" replacing the battleship as the foundation of U.S. naval power (modern carriers are too large to fit into the canal), the U.S. transferred the canal to Panama.

Since that time, Panama has managed the canal rather effectively and even increased its capacity by constructing a third set of locks, a project that American taxpayers would have most likely opposed if the canal had remained in their hands.

How many years and how much money did it cost to create the Panama Canal?

Well, a war was necessary first. The United States and Columbia concluded a deal in 1903 allowing the United States to construct a canal through what is now Panama. The pact was swiftly passed by the US Congress. The Columbian Senate, however, objected. As a result, Theodore Roosevelt armed a group of Columbians fighting for independence as soon as possible.

Beginning on November 3, 1903, the uprising. To stop Columbia from sending soldiers to put down the uprising, the United States stopped its railroads from Northern Columbia. A vessel manned by US Marines was also sent by the US to offer support if needed. The United States paid the newly formed Panamanian government $10 million on August 18 and promised to begin paying $250,000 annually for leasing the area around the projected canal when the war ended in three days (starting a decade later).

Building the canal took ten years. Before abandoning up, France labored on the building for over a year. From that moment on, the U.S. assumed control.

The canal's construction claimed the lives of around 6,000 French, American, Caribbean, and other laborers. But we discovered how to make vaccinations to stop viruses carried by mosquitoes. The canal was built by the United States at a cost of $500 million (about $15 billion today). And before the United States gained over, the French invested at least $250 million.

However, the expenses continued after then. A water deficit ten years later made it difficult to send ships via the canal. In order to maintain a steady supply of water, a substantial dam had to be erected, and a substantial lake had to be established. The projected $25 million price tag for the Madden Dam. The Canal and Dam required around $10 million in annual maintenance.

China sought to finance and invest in a second canal across Nicaragua years ago. I'm not sure if construction has ever started on it.

Thank you,

Eddie

Answer:

In exchange for the rights to the Panama Canal Zone, Roosevelt helped Panama obtain independence from Colombia, which had rejected his proposal to build the canal. He was criticized for attempting to negotiate the canal's construction through force rather than diplomacy.

How did trade shape Mycenaean society? Give me a short sentence

Answers

Answer:

It brought contact with the ideas and skills of other cultures

What caused the Mycenaean society collapse?

The broad Bronze Age collapse most likely included the Mycenaean Collapse. It's likely that the development of and capacity to produce superior iron weapons of war that surpassed bronze period weaponry had an impact on or destroyed these temple communities.

Whatever transpired, it's certain that many of these people escaped before a widespread threat that affected a big geographic region.

For those who are interested in the history of the Hebrew Bible, the Philistines—a name that the Romans appropriated for and applied to the conquest of the Holy Land around 135 ACE, AD—appeared around coastal Gaza as they also fled the mysterious catastrophe. Today's Jordan, Syria, Israel, and other nations are included in this group. The Philistines were an Aegean sea people who were not Jews. The notorious Philistine Delilah from the Bible was likely a representative of their religious group tasked with seducing Samson and weakening his resolve by making him enamored with her beauty. The powerful giant Goliath, who faced up against the shepherd king David, was also a Philistine.

Were there additional local elements at play that contributed to the Mycenaean Collapse? Evidently, a 300-year drought also devastated this region.

We must accept the conjectures of archaeologists and knowledgeable historians because the majority of people were running from unknown horrors and either did not have the time to write about this calamity or were illiterate.

What happened to the Mycenaean civilization?

The Late Bronze Age Collapse, which occurred in the 1200s BC, wiped out the Mycenaean civilisation. Additionally wiped off were the Minoans, Trojans, Hittites, and Ugaritians. Cyprus and Egypt nearly made it. The Nubians later defeated the Egyptians. The Assyrians and Sardinian Nuragic civilizations were both unharmed. In 911 BC, the Assyrians founded an empire.

Greeks relocated the city of Mycenae, but it remained a backwater town.

It served as the first phase of progress in Ancient Greece's history. Greece had developed and advanced art, literary styles, and a system of urban planning throughout this time. The new developments made during the Mycenaean Civilization are listed below:

Greece's craftsmen produced luxury jewelry, adornments, and practical objects out of precious metals and stones. In the Mycenaean Civilization, trade expanded quickly. The primary utensil items were oil, wine, and ornamental goods.Amazing engineering feats were accomplished during the time. According to archaeological studies, the Mycenaean Civilization had highly advanced drainage systems, walls, and bridges for its period. During that time, several scripts were created and employed. The history of life and the development of civilisation was written down in linear B script.

As a result, trade with other nations was the primary factor in the Mycenaean Civilization's progress. It led to the sharing of thoughts and ideas from many cultures, which aided in the creation of new concepts for art, organization, trade, and language.

Spiro Agnew's was not a result of Watergate.

President Richard Nixon's administration in the United States from 1972 to 1974 was embroiled in the massive political controversy known as "Watergate," which forced Nixon to resign. The scandal was caused by the Nixon administration's persistent efforts to hide its role in the June 17, 1972 break-in at the DNC headquarters at the Watergate Office Building in Washington, D.C.

The cash discovered on the five criminals at the time of their arrest was linked to the Committee for the Re-Election of the President by the media and the U.S. Justice Department. The U.S. House of Representatives granted expanded investigative jurisdiction to the U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary after new investigations and revelations made during the burglars' later trials to inquire on "some things within its purview" and prompted the formation of the U.S. Senate's Watergate Committee.

The subsequent Senate Watergate hearings sparked popular attention and were broadcast "gavel-to-gavel" on PBS across the country. There was a voice-activated recording system in the Oval Office, according to witnesses, and Nixon approved plans to hide his administration's involvement in the break-in. Below is a portion of the summary report on the hostage crisis in Iran.

The revised US response was given to the Algerians on December 30. In this formulation we offered a detailed proposal for settling claims through arbitration and the establishment of an escrow account in an agreed central bank for the deposit of presently frozen Iranian assets. Part of the proposal called for establishment by Iran of a Security Account with the same central bank to provide a means of making payment of claims under the proposed Claims Settlement Agreement. The proposals were worked out as a Declaration of the Government of Algeria which both sides would accept. When these arrangements were all in place and when Algeria certified that the 52 hostages had been safely released, the monies in the escrow account could be released to Iran but the Security Account would be maintained by Iran with a large balance during the settlement of claims. With the assurance of an acceptable agreement on arbitration of claims, the US would seek to have the courts lift attachment orders affecting frozen assets so that those funds could also be placed in the escrow account. We explained that it would take time beyond the release of the hostages for these legal actions to be accomplished.
