Spring”
by Edna St. Vincent Millay
To what purpose, April, do you return again?
Beauty is not enough.
You can no longer quiet me with the redness
Of little leaves opening stickily.
I know what I know.
The sun is hot on my neck as I observe
The spikes of the crocus.
The smell of the earth is good.
It is apparent that there is no death
But what does that signify?
Not only underground are the brains of men
Eaten by maggots.
Life in itself
Is nothing,
An empty cup, a flight of uncarpeted stairs.
It is not enough that yearly, down this hill,
April
Comes like an idiot, babbling and strewing flowers.

Which excerpt illustrates the use of alliteration in this poem?
“To what purpose, April, do you return again?”
“Not only underground are the brains of men/Eaten by maggots.”
“You can no longer quiet me with the redness/Of little leaves opening stickily.”
“Life in itself/Is nothing,/An empty cup, a flight of uncarpeted stairs.”
The option that correctly exemplifies an alliteration is “To what purpose, April, do you return again?”
What is the alliteration?Alliteration is a linguistic term that refers to the reiteration or repetition of similar sounds (phonemes) in a text, paragraph, or literary fragment. According to the above, when we find phonetic repetitions in consecutive sentences we can classify them as alliteration.
According to the above, it can be inferred that the fragment that exemplifies an alliteration is "To what purpose, April, do you return again?" because the words "April" and "Again" have similar phonetics that will cause remembrance in the reader.
The words "April" and "Again" can be considered as examples of alliteration because their sounds are very similar when pronounced. This allows sentences to rhyme.
On the other hand, the other fragments cannot be examples of alliteration because their phonetics are very different from one sentence to another.

He had been left, by the death of their parents in India, guardian to a small nephew and a small niece, children of a younger, a military brother, whom he had lost two
years before. These children were, by the strangest of chances for a man in his position-a lone man without the right sort of experience or a grain of patience-very
heavily on his hands. It had all been a great worry and, on his own part doubtless, a series of blunders, but he immensely pitied the poor chicks and had
done all he could; had in particular sent them down to his other house, the proper place for them being of course the country, and kept them there, from
the first, with the best people he could find to look after them, parting even with his own servants to wait on them and going down himself, whenever he
might, to see how they were doing.
What effect does the sentence structure have on the bolded sentence?
The long, drawn-out syntax signals the lengthy, two-year journey of the uncle caring for his niece and nephew.
The lack of punctuation marks in the sentence reveals the uncle's rambling thoughts about not liking the children.
The long, drawn-out syntax is the same length as the first two sentences, so it does not mean anything.
The short, choppy syntax reflects the uncertainty over who will care for the children after their parents' death.

What does The Turn of the Screw by Henry James tells about? The Turn of the Screw (otherwise called Ghost Story: The Turn of the Screw) is a British TV film in light of Henry James' 1898 phantom story of a similar name. Appointed and created by the BBC, it was first transmission on 30 December 2009, on BBC One.
The film's story is told in a progression of flashbacks blended with conversations between Ann (Dockery), a patient in a sanatorium, and Dr Fisher (Stevens), a doubtful and skeptical specialist. Notwithstanding the idea of his boss (Redgrave) that he center upon troopers who have gotten back from the First World War, Fisher wishes to help Ann in the event that he would be able.
In flashbacks, Ann is recruited by a well off and modern blue-blood (Umbers) to go about as a tutor for his stranded nephew and niece who inhabit Bly. He advises her that he isn't to be irritated in London, and that Ann is to manage any issues that might emerge. Ann goes to Bly, where she meets the all-female family staff — drove by Mrs Sarah Grose (Johnston), the servant — and afterward the youthful Flora (Sayer), one of Ann's new understudies.
Therefore Option(a) is correct.

Write a thesis statement in response to the following prompt.
Prompt: Read the letter to the editor "I, Too, Have a Dream." How does the writer use structure and language to persuade her readers and support her feelings about immigration?
Dear Editor,
I have never taken the time to write a letter to the editor, but something happened that lit a fire in me. Last week, as my best friend Areliss and I headed to class, a group of college protesters blocked our path. Their signs read "GO HOME" and "ILLEGALS LEAVE." They shouted, "Send them home!" These protesters couldn't have known what Areliss felt as they shouted and waved pamphlets in our faces like tattered flags. But, I know their words were bullets to Areliss's heart. I wanted to fire back to the protestors: Where are your ancestors from?
Areliss came to the United States illegally, but she didn't do it intentionally. She was a baby. Her parents, seeking a better life, failed to follow the established immigration procedure, and they slipped into our country undetected. Once here, they raised Areliss, who would grow up never knowing any other home but America.
Under DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), Areliss has been granted the temporary opportunity to remain here while she completes her college education. DACA ensures, at least for a while, that she will not be deported to a country she has never visited in her entire life.
The term "DREAMers" refers to an act that would have protected these immigrant children if they attended college or served in the military. The DREAM Act did not pass, but its name has remained. DACA recipients have a dream: they dream that their lifelong contribution to the United States will one day be recognized, and they will be permitted to stay in the country they have always called home.
Now, DACA is ending. Those who oppose DACA say it encourages illegal activity, weakens our borders, and goes against the Constitution. I understand their concerns. In an era of heightened security, we must do our utmost to keep this great nation safe. That includes establishing a healthy monitoring system for immigration.
But, those who oppose DACA, who wield protest signs and who want to build walls, have never felt the dreaded doom of deportation. They forget that our long and colorful history has been built by many immigrants—including the immigrants who fought for and founded our country. They forget that Lady Liberty stands as a beacon, asking for the tired, the poor, and the huddled masses yearning to breathe free. We have a responsibility to them.
To send DREAMers away is to deny that responsibility. Programs like DACA exist to keep the American dream alive.
Yes, Areliss is a DREAMer. But I, too, have a dream. My dream is that DACA will be reinstated. My dream is that Areliss will be invited to stay in the country she has known as home since she was a baby and live out her dreams in the country she loves.
Sincerely,
Brittany Taylor
The writer use structure and language to persuade her readers and support her feelings about immigration through the thesis as she makes an analogy to the famous "I Have a Dream" speech by Dr. Martin Luther King.
What is a thesis statement?A thesis statement appears at the conclusion of the introductory paragraph of a paper and it offers a concise summary of the point or claim of the essay, research paper, etc.
We can see this in how the letter is laid out, especially toward the end when the author references that they too, have a dream. We see throughout the letter strong uses of metaphors. She is using her personal experiences to persuade the audience of supporting the DACA program.
She starts by giving examples to support how there are good people who are immigrants in America and that there are people who spew hatred. The author continues to use the letter to provide evidence supporting that deportation is bad.

The term "under the weather" is used to describe someone who is ill or feeling under the weather.
