Read this sentence from paragraph 3. "We can move in that direction as a country, in greater polarization—black people amongst blacks, and white amongst whites, filled with hatred toward one another." The definition of polarization is "the alignment of electrons to magnetic poles." What is the connotative meaning of this term as it is used in the speech?

Answers

Answer 1

As used in the speech by Robert Kennedy, the word "polarization" presents the connotative meaning of division, especially concerning race and political views.

What is connotative meaning?

The connotative meaning of a word is a less literal meaning it assumes according to the context in which it is used or inserted in. Connotative is, thus, the figurative meaning of a word.

The prompt provides us with the literal meaning of polarization, which refers to magnetic poles. But that is not the meaning intended by Kennedy in his speech about Martin Luther King's death. When he mentions the polarization of black and white people, the connotative meaning is division.

Kennedy is, in other words, talking about the division of society according to race and political views. Such division or polarization is undesired and unjust. He was afraid that Dr. King's death would only accentuate African Americans' resentment of white people's violence toward them. That is why he was condemning division.

Therefore, it is our conclusion that the connotative meaning of "polarization" has been correctly explained above.

Answer:

1. Whose

Explanation:

1. ____ bag is this?

A.) Who

B.) Whose

C.) Whom

D.) Who's

B.) Whose. "Who" wouldn't work, as it's grammatically incorrect. "Who's" is a contraction of "Who is", therefore wouldn't be right in this sentence, either. 'Whom' is an object pronoun that is used to indicate the person who received an action. 'Whose' is a possessive pronoun that is used to refer to which person something belongs to. Therefore, "Whose" is the right answer"

2. Is it...

A.) She

B.) Her

C.) Hers

C.) Hers. For this sentence, "Hers" would be the only logical response, as "Is it she?" is grammatically incorrect, as well as "It is her"

3. This shirt is too small. I need a big...

A.) one

B.) ones

C.) one's

D. the one

"One". This would be the only response that works with the context. "Ones" would be grammatically incorrect with the given sentence. "One's" is a contraction of "one is" (e.g. "No one's listening"), therefore it would not work in the sentence. "The one" wouldn't, either, as it wouldn't make sense in this sentence

In the margin, explain why this imagery is an example of dramatic irony
(lines 1-10).

Answers

Duncan compliments the welcoming atmosphere of the castle and gives Lady Macbeth, who has appeared to welcome him, her gratitude for her hospitality. She responds that because she and her husband owe their king so much, it is her duty to extend hospitality.

The statement Duncan gives when he first arrives in Inverness is dripping with dramatic irony: Not only is the castle's "seat" (its surrounds) "lovely," but even the air is sweeter than the monarch is used to. The irony is heightened by the appearance of the martlet, a summertime bird. The castle, at least from the exterior, seems to be a paradise in the king's eyes. Compare and contrast this image of joy with the images of misery that make up the Porter scene. God 'ild you and We repose your hermits (your servants) ever are just two examples of the elevated language used by the king in his address to Lady Macbeth and in her response. Of course, her ornate greeting highlights her deception and contrasts with the words she used in the preceding scenario.

A royal visit's pomp and ceremony are evident in the plot development that set the setting. Food and drink are moved from one edge of the stage to another while music plays. How did the ideals, themes, and social norms of medieval literature reflect the societies the work was produced in?

The easiest way to understand mediaeval literature is to consider the three major forces that shaped mediaeval society: feudalism, the church, and the chivalric code of conduct.

In order to transmit the principles the author had in mind while writing, a lot of mediaeval literature relied on allegory; depictions of ephemeral traits, occasions, and organizations are commonplace in this literature.

During the high, or centre, Middle Ages, there was even more dramatic expansion. The period was marked by territorial and economic growth, population and urbanization, the emergence of a national identity, and the reform of secular and ecclesiastical institutions.

Answer: High school grows you into the person you are. I have great memories, good and bad, some learning experiences and some that I’ll take with me the rest of my life. My high school experience has influenced my development as a person inside and outside of the class by making me more independent, choosing friends wisely and teachers motivating me to attend college and accomplish goals I have set for myself.

I have gained my independence slowly throughout high school. The importance of being independent is being secure with who you are and what you believe in. It is extremely empowering knowing that you are in control of your own life and your own choices in high school, college and as an adult.

Kindergarten to 8th grade I attended a public school. The school was very small along with classes, teachers extremely strict and hallways always quiet. My first day of high school I was very nervous I was not used to big classes, endless amount of students in the halls and the loud ruckus. This was an educational challenge for me because it was a totally different learning environment for me that i had to get used to quickly.

My studying habits also challenged me through high school because test and quizzes were given out frequently and if you didn't know how to study you probably wouldn’t get a good grade. In 9th and 10th grade my studying habits were very poor and it showed tremendously on test and quizzes. In the 11th and 12th grade I took the initiative to learn how to study  and not procrastinate. This was a challenge for me because test and quizzes took up the most percentage over classwork and homework which means one test or one quiz could drop your grade.

Overall, high school was very enjoyable. It helped me grow into the person i am today. Every memory, good and bad and learning experiences will put a smile on my face every time i think of them. High made me the person that i am today and i am grateful for it.
