What are Paramedics?

A qualified healthcare professional, a paramedic can specialize in clinical practice, teaching, leadership, and research. They operate independently in a variety of health and care settings.

Not all people working in ambulances are paramedics. There may be a formal distinction between paramedics and emergency medical technicians (or emergency care assistants) in certain English-speaking nations, with paramedics having higher educational standards and a wider range of practice.

The paramedic function is closely connected to other healthcare occupations, particularly the emergency medical technician position, with paramedics frequently at a higher grade with more responsibility and autonomy after much more education and training.

Read this passage from I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.

Mrs. Bertha Flowers was the aristocrat of Black Stamps. She had the grace of control to appear warm in the coldest weather, and on the Arkansas summer days it seemed she had a private breeze which swirled around, cooling her. She was thin without the taut look of wiry people, and her printed voile dresses and flowered hats were as right for her as denim overalls for a farmer. She was our side’s answer to the richest white woman in town.

According to Dr. King, why is he in Birmingham? List at least three reasons, using evidence from the text to support your response.

Answers

1.King says he is in Birmingham because he was invited and because he has “basic organizational ties” there

2. Three different types of reasons that King provides in his letter to justify his presence in Birmingham: • Organization reasons: relate to any associations with organizations or groups of people. Religious or historical reasons: relate to religious or historical people, place, things, or events.

3. It says that people have a moral responsibility to break unjust laws and to take direct action rather than waiting potentially forever for justice to come through the courts. Responding to being referred to as an "outsider", King writes: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

He claims he is in Birmingham because of the injustice.

This claim can be found in the "Letter From Birmingham Jail" which is a letter written by Martin Luther King after he was arrested for inciting civil rights protests.

When reading this letter, we can say that:

King claims that he was wrongly arrested and that he is in Birmingham because injustice is something that exists in a very imposing way.He also claims that he was invited to Birmingham and that this was because of the organizational ties he had with the people who were protesting. He says that even if this arrest has taken place, he will not go back on his goal of fighting for civil rights and asks the population to do the same.It reinforces the idea that people should maintain protests based on pacifism and not be discouraged by recent events.

With this, we can see that the letter written by King reinforced the fight for civil rights, as it showed how injustices are powerful, especially with the black population.

Once there lived a slave called Androcles who was yearning to be set free by his master since he was treating him badly. So Androcles hatched a plan and escaped into a nearby forest. After he had traveled a while Androcles suddenly heard a roar behind him and found a lion standing close by. He was sure the lion was going to kill him. But instead the lion slowly limped towards him and held out its paw. There was a thorn stuck to its paw and there was a lot of blood oozing out.

Androcles removed the thorn and the lion walked away peacefully into the forest. After a few days Androcles was captured by his master who was so angry that he had run away. The master decided to throw Androcles to a lion. This was a common practice in ancient Greece where the slaves were often thrown into an arena to fight a starving lion.

The next day a huge crowd had gathered to watch the fight. The King was also present. A lion that had been starved for a number of days was brought into the arena in a cage. As soon as Androcles was brought in, the guards let the lion out of the cage. Androcles was trembling in fear as the lion rushed at him with great rage. Much to the astonishment of the crowd the lion suddenly stopped in its path looked intently at Androcles and then went and lay down near his feet. Androcles was delighted as he realized that it was the same lion that he had helped in the forest. He hugged the lion as the entire arena watched in stunned silence. The King was overjoyed at seeing such a brave act and permitted Androcles to be freed. When he entered the arena, Androcles thought that he was a dead man but the turn of events ensured the opposite his freedom.

All is well that ends well. {You can use another name than Androcles}
