What simile is used to illustrate the altercation between Menelaus and Alexander?
Responses
A a lion happily approaching a carcass
B man retreating at the sight of a snake in the gladesman
C men appearing among champions
D the South Wind shedding a mist over the peaks of a mountain
excerpt:
Homer
1 Now when they were marshalled, the several companies with their captains, the Trojans came on with clamor and with a cry like birds, even as the clamor of cranes arise before the face of heaven, when they flee from wintry storms and measureless rain, and with clamor fly toward the streams of Ocean, bearing slaughter and death to Pigmy men, and in the early dawn they offer evil battle. But the Achaeans came on in silence, breathing fury, eager at heart to bear aid each man to his fellow.
2 Even as when the South Wind shed a mist over the peaks of a mountain, a mist that the shepherd loveth not, but that to the robber is better than night, and a man can see only so far as he cast a stone; even in such wise rose the dense dust-cloud from beneath their feet as they went; and full swiftly did they speed across the plain.
3 Now when they were come near, as they advanced one host against the other, among the Trojans there stood forth as champion godlike Alexander, bearing upon his shoulders a panther skin and his curved bow, and his sword; and brandishing two spears tipped with bronze he challenged all the best of Argives to fight with him face to face in dread combat.
4 But when Menelaus, dear to Ares, was ware of him as he came forth before the throng with long strides, then even as a lion is glad when he alight on a great carcass, having found a horned stag or a wild goat when he is hungry; for greedily doth he devour it, even though swift dogs and lusty youths set upon him: even so was Menelaus glad when his eyes beheld godlike Alexander; for he thought that he had gotten him vengeance on the sinner. And forthwith he leapt in his armor from his chariot to the ground.
5 But when godlike Alexander was ware of him as he appeared among the champions, his heart was smitten, and back he shrank into the throng of his comrades, avoiding fate. And even as a man at sight of a snake in the glades of a mountain start back, and trembling seize his limbs beneath him, and he withdraw back again and pallor lay hold of his cheeks; even so did godlike Alexander, seized with fear of Atreus' son, shrink back into the throng of the lordly Trojans.
The simile used to illustrate the altercation between Menelaus and Alexander is: "even as a man at sight of a snake in the glades of a mountain start back, and trembling seize his limbs beneath him, and he withdraw back again and pallor lay hold of his cheeks; even so did godlike Alexander, seized with fear of Atreus' son, shrink back into the throng of the lordly Trojans."
This simile compares Alexander's fear at the sight of Menelaus to a man's fear at the sight of a snake in the mountains.
Overall, the simile helps to convey the tension and high stakes of the situation, as well as Alexander's vulnerability in the face of Menelaus' power.

Romantic literary movement of the early and mid-nineteenth century. The poem is an expression of the speaker’s longing for the beauty and peace of nature, in contrast to the suffering and sorrow of human life.
Keats incorporates several key elements of Romanticism in his poem, including a strong connection to nature, a longing for escape, and a focus on the beauty of emotion.
Keats uses vivid imagery to connect the reader to the natural world, and to emphasize the beauty that exists outside of human life. He describes the nightingale’s song as “a beaker full of the warm south,” and he paints a picture of the “celestial fire” of the stars.
He also speaks of the “perfumed turf” and the “drowsed humidity” of the night, creating a scene that transports the reader out of the mundane world and into a place of peace and beauty.

deliver a speech and prize about the most pressing needs of your school
Dear students, teachers and guests!
I would like to take a moment to address the most pressing needs of our school. As we all know, education is an important aspect of life and it is important that we provide our students with the best resources possible so that they get the education they deserve.
One of the most important needs of our school is the need for new technology. In today's world, technology is advancing rapidly and it is important that our students have access to the latest technology to help them succeed in their studies. Renovating the school's computer classrooms and providing students with more laptops and tablets will definitely benefit our school. Another important requirement is the need for additional classroom space. With increasing student numbers, our current classrooms are overcrowded, making it difficult for teachers to give individual attention to students. Adding more classrooms will help alleviate this problem and provide a better learning experience for students.
Finally, our school needs more money for extracurricular activities, such as sports teams, music programs, and drama clubs. These activities play an important role in developing social skills and building a sense of community. However, without adequate funding, these programs are at risk of being cut, which will result in significant losses for our students.
We need community support to meet this urgent need. I encourage everyone to come together and help us provide our students with the best possible education. Our school was fortunate to receive a grant from the local government and I am pleased to report that this funding will be used to meet some of these needs.
I am also proud to announce that we are awarding the student who has the most innovative idea to meet the needs of our school. This award is presented at the end of the school year and I encourage all students to participate.
In short, let's all work together to address our school's most pressing needs. This is how we provide our students with the information and resources they need to succeed in life. thank you very much
